So you didn't think she could make inoffensive pop like the rest of them? That she couldn't compete with the retro-modern flavors of Dua Lipa or The Weeknd? Think again. Wait, wasn't Charli set apart by her reluctance to play itOn the hood of a car, bleeding in a mannequin-like complexion, with an expression at once detached and empowered, Charli XCX dares you to listen to her new album. So you didn't think she could make inoffensive pop like the rest of them? That she couldn't compete with the retro-modern flavors of Dua Lipa or The Weeknd? Think again. Wait, wasn't Charli set apart by her reluctance to play it safe, instead twisting pop music into strange *no pun intended* new shapes? The super-smooth lines and glitzy day-glo atmosphere that make up Crash could trick us into believing she's sold her soul for a run-of-the-mill sound, but as it turns out, the joke's on us. Writing fizzy pop anthems is just one of her many talents, and how she got her first forays into the top 40 anyway. Are we also gonna forget how she leaves a spot for mainstream sounds even on her most avant garde leaning projects? Anyway, don't be that confused. Charli's point for Crash is simple but brilliant. Use my last bullets before ending my major label contract and churn out dance-pop just like the GP knows and wants it, rehashing samples, melodies, and clichés like it's nobody's business. One reviewer at Stereogum said it veered into ''karaoke'' territory, I say that's impossible. Not only would Charli kill it at karaoke, but with her brash, wonky and upfront character, wild sense of rhythm and just the right amount of sensitivity, she has the talent to take even the most tested formulas and turn them into something fresh and emotive. ''Lightning'' and ''Constant Repeat'' are prime examples, but also ''Move Me'', a stereotypically moody and sexy mid-tempo number Charli rekindles with unmistakable passion and movement. Every note of the album denotes a palpable love for pop music, nothing like that initial window-dressing of cynicism or nihilism would lead you to believe. Crash is fun, fat-free (except for two or three stiff clunkers when it goes too self-consciously retro), and flows as easy as a top-down drive through the city; ''Twice'' ending the ride with Charli's eyes twinkling, anime-style, even in the face of dark and serious topics. This is a result of someone pure who experienced some traumas and become a bad girl that still loves, but can be heartbreaker. Charli reveals her freedom as a woman in dance tracks wich talks about love and a wild life. The production it's captivating, nostalgic and at the same time, futuristic.     Great, cohesive pop album from the ultimate pop star herself. Constant Repeat, Twice and Move Me are favourites, with the latter sounding like a more mature track from the True Romance era.

    Charli xcx has been great at capturing a mood and riding for the feeling. I should've kept faith even as the slew of singles failed to stick and instead felt Charli xcx imitations but now the full body of work is out I can say it left the exact same imprint Caprisongs left earlier this year,meaning an artist commonly known for reinventing and grasping new sounds is leaning towards a pop inclined accessibility. Despite her marketed and self proclaimed "sell out era" CRASH is anything but! It's a heady adrenaline rush of pop gems sequenced with admirable care. Even in the space of the record CRASH lead singles still stand as it's weakest tracks although the background of the full track list makes them appeal more than they had. "Constant Repeat " is a thrilling almost 80's inspired admission of not being able to move on,it like the title suggests repeats with an almost coy but desperate observation of not being forgotten. The Rina inspired "Beg for you" is a club ready banger I appreciate more now. It's such a shameless bop so is the synths heavy "new shapes " that denies permanent truths but given it is followed by "good ones" goes to show reality hit sooner than we thought. There title track is a Janet Jackson wonder child that despite listing it's own self destructive or toxic tendencies it pulses with a self assured confidence that they're only like that because they aren't afraid to crash. There is not a bad song on here like the electric" baby" sounds like a sweaty workout on the dance floor and I went from hearing it's single once and being bored to repeating. "Baby" has a confidence we last saw on "next level charli" in 2019. But my two favorites come when charli channels her past selves around long standing "True Romance " era producer's like Ariel R,like on the album pinnacle " Lightening " which comes down with a near perfect critique of the parasitic dependency between pop stars and their fandoms and it's truly elevated when the production (like the album title already suggests) crashes into itself, falling together and apart with nearly visible sparks of electricity. Truly phenomenal stuff here closed off by the repetitive bliss of "twice" that seeming breaks in two towards the end as if charli is floating away at the end of the world and given how fantastic the record was you'll be happy to go with her.    … Expand

    Charli moved away from hyperpop, leaving only transparent hints of it, and returned to her original genre, adding a touch of 80s synths to the project. The album is dynamically balanced, rich in good lyrics and listens in one breath. This is still the same Charli, her character is still clearly heard in the songs, but not everyone will like the production of it.

    Honestly, one of her best albums yet. She DELIVERS bang after bang. The fact that there are only 2 featuring in the album makes it even better. Charli herself handles perfectly this CRASH. Lighting, Used To Know Me and Yuck are the most powerful songs in the album. The part of Caroline Polachek in New Shapes it's the highest high in the album. I'm SO THANKFUL to her and Charli.

    Actually, i really loving all songs from this album, and i think this is AOTY. My favourites is Constant Repeat, Yuck, Used To Know Me, Twice, Crash, Lightning, Baby, Good Ones, Beg For You. Definitely recommend!

    She walk, she delivered, and give all her charlussy on this album. What else can i say? charli always and will always sing her heart out. The production is phenomenal, the lyrics achieved what it wanted to achieve and it is emotional at best.

    This is my first ever Charlie album and all I can say is... WOW. I am super drawn in by the aesthetic, the production, and her incredibly catchy writing...

    One thing I am realizing while listening is, that I like the "Hyper" element of "Hyperpop" more than the "Pop" element. This means that some of the more traditionally catchy songs here, don't quite click with me yet (i.e. New Shapes,    This is my first ever Charlie album and all I can say is... WOW. I am super drawn in by the aesthetic, the production, and her incredibly catchy writing...

    One thing I am realizing while listening is, that I like the "Hyper" element of "Hyperpop" more than the "Pop" element. This means that some of the more traditionally catchy songs here, don't quite click with me yet (i.e. New Shapes, Good Ones). On the other end of this spectrum, I can totally lose myself in the WILD production notes, the incredible vocal altering, and the "hyper" song structures (i.e. Baby, Lightning, Yuck).

Charli made an 80’s-thriller-artpop aesthetic that just makes sense, it’s really what we needed for the pop culture these days. this project not trying to be clever, and that is what makes it so good. thank u charli for this pop perception.

    This album is not bad but not very impressive. The album has ups n downs, there are 3 songs that uplift the album itself and it would probably be Beg For You, constant repeat, Good Ones. Good Ones is an excellent track, this album just gives me generic pop vibes though, nothing special. There are way better pop albums like planet her etc.. but this is definetly charlis best.

    Easily her best release since Pop 2. Totally misunderstood. (sorry I found Charli & How I'm Feeling Now mostly unlistenable. the new version of track 10 with Lizzo is basically unforgivable. I mean that is AWFUL).

    CRASH absolutely blew me away. Charli has shown the world she can write hits for both herself and others, that she can trailblaze new musical experimentation, and here she completely embraces the world of pure pop. She takes the modern trend of nostalgia and brings darkness, a sexiness, and yet something new to the table. While I'm a fan of most of her work previously, I have to say - thisCRASH absolutely blew me away. Charli has shown the world she can write hits for both herself and others, that she can trailblaze new musical experimentation, and here she completely embraces the world of pure pop. She takes the modern trend of nostalgia and brings darkness, a sexiness, and yet something new to the table.     The just in sound are suits her better even if her previous album was good to me, this is just better. She just going to the main pop girl area and it's cool.

    On my initial listen, I didn't like the album in its entirety to be honest. But after listening to it for a couple of times, it actually grew on me. I love it now! This is definitely Charli XCX's magnum opus. What a way to conclude her record deal with Atlantic Records!

    a very charli album, but not as much as his previous works, this album is more digestible for the public, not like his previous works in the hyperpop genre, in general a very good album

    Charli XCX delivers another banging classic pop album with amazing and fun sounding songs. She is always able to make me groove when listening. This is my second favorite album of hers, after Pop 2. Was certainly worth the long wait.

    This album, although not as groundbreaking as her previous works, manages to use a basic pop/hyperpop formula to create throwback tracks that satisfy most audiences. The expectations many people had were probably not met, but the album is overall enjoyable and pretty well executed. Charli manages to combine the influence of classic artists and her musical identity on most tracks.

    This album hits all the right notes and doesn't bore you whatsoever. Some songs feel both fresh and nostalgic at the same time. It looses a bit on originality, and that for me is the reason why i feel this album isn't as good as how i'm feeling now.

    A good pop album, with a lot of high quality productions and sonority. Probably Charli’s best album!!! “Beg for you” it’s a powerful screaming collaboration between her and Rina Sawayama, and it’s probably the album’s best song together with “Good Ones”, which it could be easily the main pop song of the year if it had a good investment as a single :( . The thing that bothers me the most,A good pop album, with a lot of high quality productions and sonority.     such an epic album full with energy and spirit . im really love this album love the combination between 80s pop and future pop . the only critic i can give is , have some song i wish had a long lyrics and no a loop chorus . BUT EVERYTHING JUST PERFECT
