Welch’s self-mythologising is extravagant, her poetic language overloaded, yet her lush music binds it all into something magical on songs that exploit explicitly female archetypes to examine her own psyche.

An explosive expression of unity in the face of strife and an exuberant expression of hope. ... But beneath the pomp and circumstance, Welch is traditionally known for, Dance Fever is a deeper look at a woman who unapologetically bares it all.

It boasts some of her strongest singles ever, and, coming at the end of a four year break and a two year pandemic, it’s not the theatrical Welch who shows up here; this is a woman and a songwriter, no forest-sprite.

It feels like a joyous, slowly unfurling epiphany. It’s a gift to be able to listen in.

The album takes a step back from the vast productions of Welch’s most famous work, with nods to the Rolling Stones (Dream Girl Evil) and plenty of unexpected chiaroscuro, the better to foreground her luxuriant voice.

While this effort may not be Welch's surprise transformation into a full-on pop diva, Dance Fever is a generous offering to the goddesses of dance and restorative energy.

Dance Fever may be Welch’s most ecstatically extra work yet. [May 2022, p.75]

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Incredible! "King" is a beautiful opener, with "Free" following up perfectly. "Choreomania" is a haunting dance track and "Back In Town" is a beautiful ballad. "Girls Against God" is sweet and "Dream Girl Evil" is mean. "Cassandra" is an upbeat beauty and "Heaven Is Here" is hauntingly attractive. "Daffodil" runs with the theme of haunting melodies as "My Love" runs into an angelic but also haunting melody. "The Bomb" is a nice relaxing track and "Morning Elvis" ends the album on an angelic note. And "Prayer Factory" and "Restraint" split the album up nicely. Probably Florence's best work to date! Definitely recommend a listen! Expand

I missed hearing something like this, is it strange to say that it's new and somehow brings nostalgia? Dance Fever definitely made it into my top 3 albums of 2022. Expand

No Machine=no passion. Florence's voice sounds tired and pale. And I thought High As Hope is a bad album....
