As it stands though, data Panik etcetera is still a hell of a ride, and though new ideas aren’t exactly widespread across its 12 tracks, it gets its kicks from perfecting bubblegum-stomp electro party post-pop, and does so rather thrillingly.

If their future recordings follow the template they built here, bis may just be on their way to truly becoming the great band they always seemed right on the verge of becoming.

There’s still an overriding humour behind everything bis do, making data Panik an intensely enjoyable album.

The works of a mature band with a confident mix of musical hooks, earworm choruses and a direct beat.

Data Panik etcetera delivers up-tempo, four minute slices of pop-perfection and in a variety of styles.

In defiance of a criminal lack of universal adulation, they just get better, harder, faster, stronger, and you boggle at just how formidable they might be in their dotage.

Still splitting opinion. Still weaving rich pop tapestries from whatever fibres take their fancy. They deserved better.

Those expecting a fresh haul of output are likely to be left disappointed. But for those not so close to the ins and outs of a band that's managed to stay effortlessly hip through the ages (despite creating The Powerpuff Girls theme tune), there's enough here to warrant renewed intrigue.

The likes of "Minimum Wage" and "Too Much Not Enough" sound like a youth-club band who've simultaneously overdosed on Haribo and the Gang Of Four, which is both preposterous and admirable behavior from people in their thirties. [Jun 2014, p.71]

What might have been a solid, politically-tinged LP is let down by poodle-yelped vocals. [Jun 2014, p.104]

It’s good that Data Panik Etcetera knows exactly what it wants to do instead. Unfortunately, it does this with none of the edge, none of the drive, none of the sheer urgency that made them as great as they were in their prime.
