Not a single good song, verse, or even a quotable bar. This album had no purpose or any reason to be made.

Everyone's first reaction is always a 10/10, then a few days later they settle on the songs they like and don't like and form a different opinion. Big Sean raps about the same 3 things: Detroit, "Doing it for the family", and self-progression. Which is fine, but on a 21-track album it can all start to sound the same fast. There's some exceptions and songs I've added to my playlist, but overall he has the ability to be more creative and make bigger waves than this. Unlike Kendrick, Cole, etc he's not evolving with the sound. It's just the same thing over and over. Dark Sky Paradise is still his best work. Expand

Detroit 2 shows when Big Sean opens up and tells his story he’s an artist worthy of being in the conversation of the best of his era. He just needs to come back stronger with more airtight songs and not attempt to attract every audience that’s out there.

It gets bogged down in the doldrums somewhere between the personal and universal, and ends without truly having reached either shore.

There are moments on Detroit 2 that feel special, but Big Sean himself rarely has anything to do with them.
