This album was washed out with droning vocals and lyrics dripping with quasi-optimism. The singles were as forgettable as the other filler songs in the album, with a lack of range and devoid of anything remotely exciting. Though singer Dan Smith promises a "blue pill" of escapism, they trap themselves yet again in pseudo intellectualism.

Mostly this is just a bit Bastille by numbers. If you’re looking for a photocopy of their previous albums, faded and off-colour, Doom Days will satisfy.

A record which thrives on evoking feeling and catharsis, while remaining committed to their personal influences, on Doom Days they’ve managed to deftly build a conceptual world not all too different to the one we’re facing right now, and that feels like a triumph in itself.

An album overflowing with ambition and ideas. [Summer 2019, p.109]
