The album starts with "Hungry" which is really beautiful and hounting. Every element just fits perfect, even Mr "She Didn't Even Know It". Every element just fits perfect, even Mr "She Didn't Even Know It". It starts off with a slow intro of hounting vocals which are present in the whole track but choped. When the verse kicks in, Fergie is backed-up by a high-hat. Cool! "Like It Ain't Nuttin'" is a little corny, but it has its own charm, especially with this intro. Plus Fergie repeating word "nuttin'" isn't as cringey as other people might've thought. The next song is a collaboration with Nicki Minaj called "You Already Know" which is damn brilliant. With so many delivery changes from Fergie you just cannot be affected by this banger! However the single version is much better than the album version, it even would transition better to "Just Like You", which takes more emotional approach, rather than girlboss power songs. It has slightly off melody, but it works pretty fine.
Going even slower, we have the fifth track "A Little Work" which begins like a lullabye but it continues with blast of Fergie's powerful vocals. "Life Goes On" is really joyful, I enjoy it, but I would cut its outro - it feels unnecessary. The next track, "M.I.L.F.$" should be iconic song, shame it flopped, because it is really dope! It is again a showcase of how cool delivery changes Fergie can do! And now we reach "Big Girls Don't Cry"-esque song, known as "Save it Til Morning". And to be honest, I prefer Double Dutchess version better. The vocals are more grown, beautiful, and convincing. It's a really climitic song after all.
"Enchante" is another vibe! Really great chill-pop production and a neat placement of child's vocals! "Tension" is a really cool bouncy song, while "L.A.Love (la la)" is another showcase of Fergie's versatility. The last two tracks are similar title-wise: "Love is Blind" and "Love is Pain". The first one is really bright and a little quirky, whilst the former is...painful...not only long, but some vocals are too try-hard or off.
In conclusion, Double Dutchess proves that Fergie improved her rapping and flow skills. It is also ver cohesive and simply dope!

Fergie questa volta ha osato... forse ha provato ad avvicinarsi ad un pubblico più giovane con sound moderno. L'album è ben riuscito, magari qualche brano era da ritoccare, un pò simili tra loro. Il visual album rende il tutto più ricercato.

After 11 years, what to expect? Fans were waiting for a Dutchess Rip-off. The critic that didnt receive her 2006 debut positively chose to ignore her.
The fact that a 40+ woman chose to make a youthful pop album seemed to piss off critics. In L.A.Love she odes to marijuana with the verse "We legalizin' it.". In the controversial M.I.L.F $, she plays with how society look at moms:

The fact that a 40+ woman chose to make a youthful pop album seemed to piss off critics. In L.A.Love she odes to marijuana with the verse "We legalizin' it.". In the controversial M.I.L.F $, she plays with how society look at moms: conservatively with a hidden objetification tone, with the tongue-in-cheek lyrics (even though she may had done this unpurposely).

What the critics failed to realize is that, as claiming the body of work disconnected, is that this is exactly what connects her songs altoguether. The playfullness, unapologetic core of her work. Still, she evolved as she improved her personal deliverances in songs like A Little Work and Love Is Pain. Another highlight, Save It Till Morning brings back the 00's acoustic sound, which is actually fresh in the EDM scenario we are now. While on the other side she brings nearly futuristic sounds with Hungry and Tension. All of still maintaining her ecletic roots with Love Is Blind. Not to mention her mid 00's electronica bringback, Enchanté.

With that being said, Fergie kept fitting with the actual musical sensations, in songs like Life Goes On, and You Already Know. Unfortunately, younger audiences seems pretty skeptics about 30+ age stars, which makes it hard to capture them,

The result is an album that is certainly overlooked more because of its flaws (mostly due to polished production lack), which does not overshadow the braveness of embracing the pop at 43 y.o. with such ecleticism. DD is original in it's own terms, and is a decent pop album just like, but more mature, The Dutchess.

Double Dutchess is the right follow up of Fergie's first album The Dutchess. As the previous one, Double Dutchess has a lot of sounds, from ballads to reggae songs, but Fergie manages to connect, interrelate all these generes, so making Double Dutchess a little pop masterpiece. She has talent and a strong personality, which make her able to sing whatever she wants without being boring. Good work.

That's a comeback. Double Dutchess is a pretty solid album, Fergie show's different sides of herself as an artist. Her voice has so much passion in songs like "A Little Work" and "Love Is Pain", but it's also sassy and it pump's you up in club anthems like "You Already Know", "Like it Aint Nuttin".

Songs like MILF $, Save It Till Morning and Love Is Blind show perfectly how Fergie brings some influences from the first album, which makes us travel time, and have a yummy sense of nostalgia. Fergie can also once again confirm her incredible versatility in a totally eclectic album featuring tracks from Trap, Hip Hop, Reggae, Pop and Mid-Tempo. I can not fail to highlight what may be the best song of Fergie's career, A Little Work, an autobiographical, strong and emotional song with great vocals. The visual experience is also great, though the Enchanté and Tension clips seem a bit disconnected from the other videos. The only flaw of the project is not being so cohesive, and keeping a 2014 song (La Love), but in general it's a good album and one of the most different of the last 4 years. Expand

'Double Dutchess' was a long-awaited album not only for the fans of the singer but also for the pop music fans worldwide - the album leaked in a demo version in the first half of 2017, causing a commotion on the social networks. Finally released, Fergie not only finally dropped her best work so far but also a visual experience, including music videos for every song off the album. Even though completely out of timing, since Fergie started dropping singles from the album back in 2014, the album still sounds fresh and enjoyable to any music genre fan out there. Mainly with hip-hop and pop influences, the singer demonstrates her abilities and vocal capacity over any genre while slaying on rap at songs such as "Hungry" and "Like It Ain't Nuttin'", on euro-dance with Caribbean elements on her duet with her son, Axl Jack, for the song "Enchanté (Carine)", on the soulful guitar based song - which reminds us of her iconic hit "Big Girls Don't Cry" - filled with emotions "Save It Til Morning", and probably the highlight of the album, the midtempo ballad pop epic song, "A Little Work". Fergie may be delayed it in the process of creating and releasing it, but she made it up in an eclectic, even more personal than the first, mature and fun album. We might not be in the best moment for female vocals on the charts, but Ferg-Fergie knows what to serve - and she did it in a full meal. Expand

It’s a strong start, though what follows is surreal--be it alluding to Pharoahe Monch (encouraging ladies to “rub your boobies”) or the jarring juxtaposition of hyperactive single MILF$ leading into a power ballad.

Although the overall album lacks cohesion, Double Dutchess’ sonic diversity does remind you of Fergie’s versatility as a performer, one who spits, warbles, and belts all across the project. The only thing is, she brings little innovation or excitement to the many genres she channels.

Fergie struggles to balance the new with the old throughout the album. Where Stefani’s raw confessionals helped distinguish This Is What the Truth Feels Like, though, Double Dutchess is stuck in the past.
