Exceptionally good album from Jim James. Different from his last and very different from My Morning Jacket. It shows the depth of musical ideas he possesses.

Definitely one of the top 10 albums of 2016. It's a complete album so you have to listen from start to finish to appreciate it. It might put you in a trance, but that's a good thing.

This time around, the woozy, comforting psychedelia of old remains, the songs trickling into one another, sleepy synths sighing, purring and pulsating. But Eternally Even comes with the biggest serving of soul he’s cooked up yet, sexy basslines sizzling even as he looks death in the face for We Ain’t Getting Any Younger Parts 1 and 2.

Eternally Even is an album for the world of today, a warning, a promise, and a rewarding musical experience.

As a unit, Eternally Even misfires every now and then, and the impact is integral to the structure of the whole.
