I found this album to be very average indie pop/rock. Nothing too negative, but nothing all that memorable either. Guster seems to be attempting complex instrumentation and it is really hurting them in the songwriting department. Some songs, like Simple Machine, are more focused, but the majority of them are fairly forgettable.

  1. Though not nearly as strong as 2008’s Ganging Up On the Sun, Evermotion is stronger than 2010’s Easy Wonderful and will continue to keep the band relevant in 2015 and beyond.

Evermotion is an airy, winsome release that puts less focus on guitars, dabbling instead in horns and electronic and new wave sounds, to terrific, moody effect.

Kudos to the group for deciding to do a little remodeling, but it might behoove them to keep the original floor plans, as the current arrangement feels a little out of character.
