This album is amazing, you can feel how Louis Tomlinson’s finally found himself in regard to music, and you can almost hear how he poured his feelings into writing these songs, wholeheartedly and soulfully. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Faith In The Future is one of the best albums that’s come of this year. It’s safe so to say Louis Tomlinson has found his sound. You can tell he’s matured lyrically and production wise on this record. On Walls (another great album), he seemed more closed-minded about what sound he wanted to use. Which, is totally fine because it was his first record and deciding to stay in your comfort zone is nothing but human. Faith In The Future however, definitely shows how he’s become more open to using new sounds while still keeping that authenticity he’s known for. He kept the guitars, but added more drums, certain synth-pop and alternative sounds that blended really well with the instrumentals. He mentioned in several interviews how he decided to work with other artists and people who love music as much as he does; people that write music to enjoy and love it as opposed to others who only write to get a hit single. Louis’ singles were perfectly chosen. while some might argue that certain songs like, “Written All Over Your Face” should’ve been a single (it quickly became a fan favorite), “Bigger Than Me”, “Out Of My System” and “Silver Tongues” perfectly sums up the album. The acoustic guitar and raw lyrics in “Bigger Than Me” go hand in hand with songs like “Saturdays” that give you the more emotional and nostalgic feeling from the record. The second single “Out Of My System” goes well under the category of pop-punk and pop-rock. “Written All Over Your Face” fits beautifully under this category as well because, songs like these on the record give you the rock n roll, kind of destructive feeling your body starts craving when you hear that electric guitar start. The third single, “Silver Tongues”, falls under more of a pop category. Although it still gives you the pop-punk vibes Louis is becoming more known for, it goes well with songs like “Lucky Again.” These songs bring comfort while simultaneously make you want to dance. Some might disagree with this categorization because certain songs might fit with others. “Lucky Again” for example, has a personal attachment to it just like “Chicago” which in my opinion, would fall into the “Bigger Than Me Category.” However for the fans that have heard “Walls”, you know the personal lyrics in Tomlinson’s songs became a signature for him. The more you listen to the record, I mean really listen to the sounds in certain choruses or verses, the more appreciation you have for the album. As well as listening to the lyrics. Louis has been known to have “slap in the face” kind of lyrics. On this record however, you notice how certain lines have become more “interpretive” to put it that way. For example, “She is Beauty, We are World Class” is a song that is not really easy to decipher on the first listen, but it’s a bop. You can tell that FITF has taken after certain artists, like Arctic Monkeys, Tame Impala, Oasis, The Beatles, and even ABBA. Louis definitely stuck to the authentic rock sound but impressively mixed it with dance elements that were good to see. Certain parts in certain songs might remind you of certain artists but it’s incredible to see how Louis has taken that inspiration and sculpted something completely original and refreshing. You can also tell Tomlinson’s confidence has grown. You note that in his voice. He’s hitting higher notes wonderfully in songs like “Bigger Than Me” and “Angels Fly”. He uses other parts of his voice to hypnotize you in other songs like “Written All Over Your Face.” Louis has been working on this album and his sound for a while. It’s safe to say he’s found it and the wait for his sophomore album was worth it. I truly believe there’s something for everyone on this record. Even if you think there’s not, give it a listen. You might change your mind. Especially if you listen to the artists mentioned earlier. Louis has come a long way and it’s easy to see he’s quickly working his way into becoming a household named. Interesting music that doesn't fit into the box of 'pop' anymore, through and through an alternative album. Banger after banger with Louis's soulful voice and sick instruments. Great sounds and melody whether its guitars, drums, pianos or violins. Such a brave album with incredible song writing. I'm pretty picky in choosing songs and even though I've been a fan of some singers for 4+ years, I still can dislike some of their songs and need several repeats to finally like some songs. However, in this album, I loved majority of the songs from the first time listening. Each song in this album has its own vibes and is different from the others and I might say this album took me on a journey, where at first tracks I can feel the excitement and headbanging vibes, and then to middle tracks that were quite emotional but still upbeat song--mellow and sensitive lyrics with upbeat songs, that's it!--and at the end of the album, the songs were about saying goodbyes but don't wanna say goodbye, just like my feeling towards the album! Really like this album and I'm a bit guilty of kinda neglecting Walls...

Here's my recommendation for first time listening to his songs: written all over your face (it makes you dance), angels fly (warm, warm hug, comforting song), Chicago (beautiful forgiving song, like a warm hug), headline (very good 80's vibes and makes you dance), silver tongues (happy relationship where you don't want to part ways).

And here's my fav, not in order:

Immediately loving them: the greatest, written all over your face, bigger than me, lucky again, face the music, Chicago, out of my system, headline, silver tongues, common people, angels fly

Need second time listening: all this time, saturdays, holding on to the heartache (BUT THIS ENDS UP BEING ONE OF MY FAVS, the bridgeee dudee!)

Sometimes skip it: she is beauty we are world class.

If anything, however, new album ‘Faith In The Future’ is simply too nice. The songwriting is sturdy and well-formed, leaning on his indie roots – you can hear ghosts of the Gallaghers, whispers of Chris Martin – without ever truly channelling something dangerous, or edgy. ... It just doesn’t raise the pulse, or quicken the blood-flow in a way you might long for.
