Deerhoof is arguably my favorite live band, and this album shows why: The band offers so much energy onstage that you can't help but get amped up by it, even if you are just listening to the audio recording. Make no mistake - the energy isn't raw, it's finely tuned in such a way that shows the band's years-worth of experience, skill, and chemistry.

Fever 121614, Live in Japan is a more than welcome artifact of Deerhoof's contemporary live show (unbelievably, the San Francisco group has been around for more than 20 years now), and is every bit as weird and compelling as it should be.

Things may have to dismantle a bit after Fever's stunning mastery of the current setlist, but fans will always have it to look back on the energetic high point of the band's time with its current lineup.

Rather than reference the work they’ve made before, each project takes on a completely new form. Fever 121614 is no different, as Deerhoof harness their previous material, turn it on its anxious head, and perform it in a way that allows fresh life to creep in.
