Just when you thought the old Taylor country-folky sound aesthetic was dead. Simply a poet and a guitar is all it takes to make an album like “folklore”. Best work yet.

You're not my homeland anymore, so what am I defending?" This may come as a shock to swifties who are still in the "you need to calm down" and "I forgot you existed", because this album is more alternative. But the ballads are heartbreaking and so relatable, in the most casual way. I especially love the trilogy of songs having to do with a story about seventeen years olds- August, Betty, and Cardigan all have different points of view and are so incredible. Taylor's album sounds so different, but still so her. Expand

Taylor is not just 1989, Lover or Reputation, which I really love and enjoyed immensely: she’s a 360 degree artist and above all, 100 % authentic. An extraordinary album delivered after tre months of clearly cathartic quarantine, craftily written in order to express the artist’s most intimate feelings: the result really does speak to my soul. This album is a very cohesive body of work. Fokelore focuses both on fictional narratives as well as real stories from taylor’s past to make a story based experience. There are several songs that seem to connect on themes, and like most taylor swift albums, there is a lot to uncover with her lyrics if you so choose. In all this album, while in some places is slow, is a great album to experience for its chill production and sad, beautiful, and mysterious lyrics.

Her songwriting has evolved in many ways, and with the artistry of poetry that she transcends through music, her 8th studio album, "Folklore", takes her career on a whole different journey. Therefore, if you understand certain stories she is depicting, then you can later appreciate the music sonically.

To be honest when I first caught wind of Taylor dropping a new album titled “Folklore” I was a bit nervous, because of rumors saying she’s doing a folk style album. Honestly, Taylor has outdone herself in this album. Especially with the lyrics for the 16 songs featured in this release. And I’m not mad at the music either, it took a few tries on some songs and some songs kinda bleed together and sound similar but other than that I liked the style she was going for. I honestly loved this album and it’s almost perfection, but no album is perfect in my opinion. So I give it a 9/10 Also this is my first time posting a review online so I apologize if I sound all over the place, and for the poor grammar. Sorry! Expand

Taylor Swift's least thought-out album might be her best : from "the 1", a track claiming that Taylor -- the narrator, is "doing good, on some new sh*t." to "Cardigan", when the nostalgia clicks in and she starts missing her ex-lover, and until "the lakes", the listener ascends to a flurry of beautifully-written songs about heartbreak. Las letras son una joya, personales y bien cuidadas, pero los ritmos son iguales, no se distingue qué canción es cual, la voz de Taylor nada impresionante

The vocals, the instruments, the lyrics... this album sounds like heaven and it's really great to see Taylor extending her discography to new sounds

This was.. actually really good? Outside of some questionable production choices on some of the Antonoff-ian tracks (which is a personal let down to say the least - what the hell is going on with the mix on mirrorball?) she really gels with the sound. Didn't think I'd see a Bon Iver collaboration in this lifetime nor would I have thought it'd be as good as it is. This year is full of surprises.

An incremented work coming from the artist completely dedicated. The bulbul made me feel light and like I was in a forest feeling a sensation on my skin. Taylor surprised and hopes that the fruits of this work will increase.

Bursting out amidst an uncertain time were the grey squares in Swift's Instagram: a new era. Uncharacteristically soon after the rainbow "Lover " came the calm. "Cardigan" shot to no.1 and mouths couldn't cease gushing about their favourite. A risky endeavour away from the pop of previous Lp's stuck its landing with a greater emphasis on the songwriting . "Cardigan" shot to no.1 and mouths couldn't cease gushing about their favourite. A risky endeavour away from the pop of previous Lp's stuck its landing with a greater emphasis on the songwriting . Songs taking other perspectives &narratives allow space for stunning moments to develop organically such as the teenage love triangle that threads through "betty" "august "&"cardigan" (each record highlights. "Betty" bob Dylan harminicas show a unfamiliar side if swift whilst the song is a plea for forgiveness. "august " being an ephemeral memory of an unstable love affair from the discarded mistress. It's so tender &sincere with how well it conveys "august" heartbreak. The album does take some stories form swift herself, such as the Scott Brocbetta call out "my tears ricochet " to the loneliness of "this is me trying "which asses the overwhelming hate she received and how it made her retreat, unwanted.
The record is a versatile yet cohesive compilation of an artists best songs. A promising sign of Swift's direction.

Probably Taylor Swift's best album to date.....Personally I think the songwriting is still not that great, but it's better than her previous work in that regard. I'm not the demographic she is trying to appeal to so maybe it works better for other people.

I don't think it is album of the year. Few of these songs are going to last in the public conscience. But it's certainly decent.....

a firm step out of Swift's comfort zone, this album is more than the revindication of Taylor. through beautifully written and deep lyricism, Swift takes us into a deep dive into her mind, painting a landscape of feelings and unknown yet familiar spaces that can't be ignored. the lack of ego is also helpful.

What really fascinated me was that she has her own style in this new genre completely figured out. Her vocals dont sound that different from her pop songs, just minus all the effects. This is deeply original (except for some obvious inspirations like Sharon Van Etten).
Every chorus is catchy and every song has at least some of those "oooh"-lyrics.

Im sure even decades along people will talk of this record, creating its own myth and folklore.

A very good album, Taylor's songwriting is on point and shines like never before in this record. Maybe the music genre is not for everyone and it might require more than one listen, but it's truly enjoyable and one of the best records of 2020.

Though i do believe taylor latest album (evermore) is a bit better she show the same skill and talented songwriting on this album with a few songs i found a little boring but over than that a good album overall.

This also showcases her evolution as an artist getting better and better since lover.

The folklore itself is a mixture of 'safe & sound' and 'the last time' but maturest. The melancholy, nostalgia and tranquility of this album is outstanding! The hightlights would be: Cardigan, Exile, My Tears Ricochet, Seven, August, Invisible String e Epiphany.

To no one's surprise, Taylor's lyricism is stellar as always. With the content of the tracks leaning more into fiction than solely based on her own experiences like her previous works, folklore makes you drift away into these stories like a novel. The production is very consistent and a breath of fresh air from all the 808s, hi-hats, and huge synths around this time. Not that pop is inherently ‘bad‘ - just from personal opinion I believe Taylor really shines as a writer and performer in this landscape of acoustic-folk. Personal highlights of mine have to be mirrorball, exile (obviously), hoax, cardigan, my tears ricochet etc etc. I could honestly go on as there isn’t a song I dislike on this album which I don’t think I’ve been able to say for all her previous works. I don’t think I could write this review without mentioning the genius lyrical blend of personal experience and told stories; including the often warping these stories suffer due to the amount they are told from person to person, giving the album its name - folklore. I cannot praise this album enough honestly. It is a career highlight from Taylor indeed. Expand

A modern-folk masterpiece which finds her moving from her previous pop bangers into stunningly simple yet sharp melodies, ‘folklore’ will be going down in Swiftie history as one of her most unexpected, and undoubtedly one of her best.

These 16 tracks (17 on the deluxe version) play out quite pleasurably in their entirety, the joins between Swift, Dessner and Antonoff ultimately only of niche interest. But Swift’s powerful songs reach their climaxes with bittersweet orchestrations, rather than blows to the solar plexus or a ringing in the ears. Everything hovers; little truly lands.
