Loved this album, it's exactly what I expected from her. It's very impressive how well she's done this year, a definite stand out amongst the other breakout artists, she's established herself so well this year I almost forgot she was a breakout artist

It’s an extremely catchy album with a few hits, a few misses, and a lot in between. My only criticism would be that it doesn’t show much range but Megan has so much potential and I can’t wait to see what she produces next.

Would like to have heard more personal content. It wasn’t bad but perhaps some of the songs could’ve been saved for a deluxe version of the album. In terms of pushing the envelope, it feels as though Megan has played things really safe. I personally love Megan for her style of music but it would’ve been interesting to see her challenge her critics that say she has the same sound. Megan is a great female rapper, and can spit. But I believe she lacks versatility, and by this I don't mean the way she actually raps, she just doesn't have much change within her lyrics. I want to hear about Megan's life story, her emotions, coming up in the rap game, and many other things, I need to connect with her to enjoy the music more because having some more emotional songs would give depth to this album. This is what I feel is missing, more depth. None of the tracks majorly stand out to me. However, in the tracks Megan raps on with her male counterparts, her dominance is asserted - and she's strong.

The features on this album are good, with the highlights being Beyoncé & SZA who are both powerful and add to the songs they're on.

Overall, this is a good album, but I don't see it as a strong debut. But it will definitely make it easier for her sophomore album to be much better, because I think she can do much better than this.

Good News is Megan's debut but it feels like it feels like she has been around for a while, with a few mixtapes under her belt. It is a fairly good record as she delivers her sex-positive raps, she unloads on her detractors and flaunts her Texas origins. Most of the songs are of course about being good at sex and acquiring wealth which is in the same as her other releases. Sonically she offers some hard core hip hop beats which make for a good dance session or an evening drive. She invites DaBaby, City girls, Lil Dirk, SZA, Big Sean to deliver some epic collaborations. Not forgetting the great singles she released throughout the year such as Girls in the Hood and Savage. She also samples artists such as Jazmine Sullivan, Juvenile, Eazy-E AND B.I.G, and all the samples are really good. I just feel like the album did not need to be as long as it is, there are some songs which are lyrically and sonically very similar they did not need to all make the album, she could have combined them and made a bop. In my opinion its 17 track album with 12 or 13 great songs. Nonetheless its a very cohesive and fun body of work, her delivery is undeniably good and she will probably continue to dominate this lane of gangsta rap. Expand

From the moment it starts, "Shots Fired", is just engaging. Megan's flow is very good, backed-up by a very well chosen instrumental. "Circles" is put on the cool sample, but sometimes when the instrumental runs out, the song feels too empty. "Do It on the Tip" is really cool! Good chemistry beetween Megan and City Girls! "Do It on the Tip" is really cool! Good chemistry beetween Megan and City Girls! One of them does a really dope inmpersonation of Nicki Minaj. "Sugar Baby" takes us back to trashy electro production of late 2000s, and it's not as good as previous songs, but still sounds as a good song to twerk to. "Movie" is another okay song. Definitely impressed by Lil Durk, sounding better than on other songs I've heard him, but the chorus how too little punch, so it feels empty. Plus, it kinda sounds like a retread of "WAP", especially with Megan (still impressive!) delivery.
Cool instrumental, but SZA's vocals sounds kinda weird and off place, but she definitely fits better on "Freaky Girls" than Megan ngl. I'm not saying she's bad here, but I like more R&B approach here. And we finally arrive at "Body", it's cool. That's it haha. "What's New" starts really dope! This beat is just sick, and it's sucha fit for Megan's flow! Another cool-flow song is "Work That", which also tries to be a little more chill-at least from the instrumental side. "Intercourse" follows this chilled trend. Popcaan sounds so unintelligable, but he's really good! And same as "Freaky Girls", I think it would be cool to hear his solo version of the song, however Megan here goes a little down to sing, so it's really nice! "Go Crazy" sounds quirky, not bad!
"Don't Rock Me to Sleep" is a switch-up to kinda dream-pop-y side of Megan, interesting! If her voice weren't as processed, and that "blah-blah-blah", it would be really gorgerous. But it's catchy! Still late-back, rap "Outside", is cool, it contains nice instrumentation! And it also "sugues" into "Savage Remix" flawlessly! And this remix is really cool, everything is so well-chosen. "Girls in the Hood" is a very heavy song, didn't expecting that! Album closer, "Don't Stop", has those distorted synths, they crash with Megan's voice really good! The first chorus is okay, but the one with Young Thug slays!
It's a solid body of work. Contains some switch-ups, but nothing groundbreaking. Maybe just rap ain't for me, but I enjoyed Good News nonetheless!

I hope Meg continues to experiment more with her sound but I really would like to see her try different flow, voices, and rap styles. She seems to be “Meg the One Trick Pony” rather than the Stallion for me. I still feel like Meg hasn’t really found her sound either and this album is basically a way for her to throw some sounds out and see what fans like. Lastly, a pro of this album is the amount of tracks. The album has 17 tracks. My three personal favorites are “Shots Fired” “Movie” and “Freaky Girls.” I also feel like Hip Hop albums in general (for men and women) have a lower standard than pop albums. They tend to be less personal and more club dance (if that makes sense). I would love to see Megan get more personal like she did on “Shots Fired” for future music. Overall, not a terrible album but definitely on the low end. Probably will skip most of the songs.

this album was very poorly put together for all the resources she has access to it. Is no one going to talk about how poorly the mastering was on most of the tracks??? Lord have mercy. I don’t think Megan has enough honest people in her circle.
She will never be a crossover artist. You can’t mainly talk about s*x on almost every single song and expect to be a crossover artist. You can’t

She will never be a crossover artist. You can’t mainly talk about s*x on almost every single song and expect to be a crossover artist. You can’t have a curse word in every line and expect to be a crossover artist. And most of all, if you don’t have the ability to consistently make catchy hooks, change up your cadence, switch flows and tone, etc all your songs are going to sound the same and you WONT cross over.
Megan is a lost cause and peaked as an artist with Tina Snow

This album isn't worth the listen. Everything is bad produced, unoriginal and te lyrics talk only about, well, you know...
This album was made just for the hype. It isn't good and even the featurings don't carry the album.
Not worth the hype, the wait and the listen.

She brought nothing new to the table with this album. It just sounds like the rest of her music. She talks about the same subjects and I would like to see more from her considering her potential. Overall, this album is not worth the listen.

I really am disappointed in this album. There was no anticipation built and it was rushed. She didn’t push it like she and her team should have. She didn’t promote it like she should’ve. Nor her label. The budget seemed very low. Everything, including her photos, and songs were all repetitive. No diversity once so ever. No shock value.

Wow the most uncreative, repetitive, empty and talentless album I’ve heard so far for this year. She really took her time to regurgitate this hot garbage at our face with all these reviews and critics all over her nuts not giving a damn about the actual music but screaming “She’s innocent, album’s fire” Wow journalism really has fell off smh

it's the worst and most boring album I've listened to in my life. She doesn't got anything that makes a rapper. She doesn't have bars, punchlines nor the metaphors. Her flow doesn't change throughout the album which makes it boring. Her singing skills are horrible, she shouldn't do this again. That album is really basic and she's basic herself. This doesn’t even feel like Megan’s “debut album”. She has had countless “debut releases” such as Fever and SUGA. I won’t be surprised that when this “album” flops she won’t call it an EP or mixtape like she usually does. The songs are all repetitive, nothing new nothing changed. The most boring release of 2020.

Probably one of the worst rap albums released in the past couple years. Megan's lack of versatility in her flow, delivery and lyrical content has been a constant source of criticism of her work for years. In this album, she does try new things, but I think I finally understood why she never branched out into different sounds before — because she is not capable of doing so. In this album, she does try new things, but I think I finally understood why she never branched out into different sounds before — because she is not capable of doing so. Her singing voice is as atrocious as a singing voice can be, as she displays in Don't Rock Me To Sleep, which is up there with the worst songs I've ever heard. The production is boring, the lyrical content is repetitive and unremarkable, the delivery is subpar. Nothing about this record was good. Expand

If you enjoy predictable topics and degenerative lyrics then you'll probably like this. Money, sex and clothes on repeat. The people who own these music labels want artist like this to continue to dumb down society which is odd to me.

the album is so horrible - there is one song which is average (Shots Fired) and even that is bad. she has no bars, her lyrics are all recycled and she doesn’t stray from her typical one flow. an all round disgusting album, there’s a reason it couldn’t crack 8k pure sales.

The crisp production makes this feel like a well-thought-out and intentional release, rather than a rushed cash-grab. However, it’s this poise that makes Good News exactly that: good. When held up to past releases like Tina Snow and Fever, Megan’s larger-than-life personality over the Dirty South production she is most familiar with is not showcased to its full potential.

When Megan moves away from her standard lyrical fare, perpetuating her beef with Tory Lanez on opening track Shots Fired or penning the poppy tune Don’t Rock Me To Sleep, the results are some of the best moments on the album, and if these aspects of her style had been explored some more it could have made for a more diverse LP, but Good News is still chock-full of catchy hooks, stellar verses and feisty attitude.

“Good News” proves Megan’s prodigious talent, but it also suggests that, with a bit more digging, this gem could emit an even more prismatic shine.
