Haiku from Zero is a statement of potential, but it may just take one more album for the band to reach the sorts of heights they’re aiming for.

Cut Copy need to learn to make music with the reckless abandon of a good night out--at whichever type of club they end up in.

Haiku From Zero offers up plenty of mesmerising moments, but they come with a damaging amount of baggage and ultimately the record falls a little short of the tropical dream that it envisages.

Slickness will sometimes tend to blandness here, it's true, but "Memories We Share" and "Black Rainbows" show that there's room for sugary drinks alongside LCD Soundsystem's hard liquor. [Nov 2017, p.26]

Tthey continually hit the sweet spot between the dance floor and sweaty indie venue. Songs overflow with ideas and, as the title suggests, they manage to plot a path through them all, finding something poetic amid all the excess.

Haiku From Zero has none of its strength in songs or clarity of goal. The electro-funk mixed with the alternative dance and light tropicalia percussion ends up tasting like pizza and pie and popsicles all at the same time. It isn’t that this record is bad, its just meh.

Haiku From Zero is fine filler for a late-night dance party, but we can't fathom reaching for this album as often as those prior-too much of it borders on forgettable

The results are about as bold and memorable as a spent glowstick. [No. 148, p.55]

Another awesome Cut Copy album. If you're a fan, this will do for you the same that Free Your Mind and Zonoscope did. If anything I felt likeAnother awesome Cut Copy album. If you're a fan, this will do for you the same that Free Your Mind and Zonoscope did. If anything I felt like FYM dragged on a little towards the end, and this is more succinct. Black Rainbows is catchy af, Counting Down is probably my favorite, but the last half of the album still holds up and Tied to the Weather is a memorable closer. Already up there with my favorite Cut Copy albums, I give this a 10 to balance out tepid critic reviews. Full Review »
