At times the slower tempos make the album feel longer than it actually is, but it’s never dull.

Though he’s reportedly less than eager to release a ballad, some of the best moments of I’m a Fire are “Burnin’ Bed,” written by powerhouse Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, that boasts a beautiful, progressive chorus and “The Secret,” that deals in death, infidelity and hidden love.

In many instances that willingness to change things up has resulted in a more conventional record, with well-executed but standard-issue, radio-ready country-pop.

4 months in and "Secret" is still the best country song I've heard since Clark's Hold my hand and Musgraves' Merry Go Round. This is why "I'm4 months in and "Secret" is still the best country song I've heard since Clark's Hold my hand and Musgraves' Merry Go Round. This is why "I'm a fire" is just so disappointing. David Nail is capable of of being the best male song writer in Country. We all know that he can sing with the best of them but beside "Secret," the rest of the material is poor, cheesy, and typical. Don't waste your money; buy the secret and let's hope Nail and Scooter write all the songs on the next album. Full Review »
