Good album but overrated. It's like a bag of very different songs and they even put a movie soundtrack that doesn't fit with the album theme. Too comercial and pop. The original essence of the band is lost.

I'm not against change or a direction more pop/rock on some song like they did in Seven Inches of Satanic Panic single with "Kiss the Go-Goat" or even "Mary on a Cross".

However, in Impera this is like a constant slow pace pop/rock music without any variations in style or intensity. There's nothing really surprising, or even interesting to me to hear more than once. I'm myself the

I'm myself the first surprised by how i feel about Ghost as a long-time fan. Impera's songs are not "Bad" properly speaking but there is a BIG lack of variety in every aspect, and this is why i love Ghost in the first place : for the richness of their albums in general and their unique style that mix different genres.

And I don't find that in this album.

First Ghost album that I can actually listen through start to finish and enjoy every track. Usually there’s a few I skip over here and there, but not this one. That in itself says a lot. In a world of generic pop/punk/metal bands, these guys bring an old school vibe that is refreshingly unique to todays market. This is a good “gateway” album to get a new crowd into the band for sure.

2022? Really? This could have been released in the early 2000's or so! Production leaves much to be desired as tracks sound awfully flat, unimpressive and bland. It sounds rushed, underworked and desperately evocative. The band is surely trying to tackle interesting subjects, but they use far too much emphasis and seem so confident in a formula we've seen many times before.

The mixing is poor, the vocals are bad, the pace is very jerky, the silent spaces are particularly ineffective and it lacks both versatility and authenticity. Highly overrated.

The production is a tad artificial at times, way less organic than the somber, daring spirit of Opus Eponymous, but every instrument is performed with impressive precision by every ghoul, and Forge's vocals sound on point most of the time, save for some grating moments when he seems to fall out of character. The added backing vocals and the meticulous arrangements enhance greatly the album's overall sound, but the question remains if these sorts of embellishments are enough for the loyal sheep to keep their faith on what the Clergy is feeding them.

Overall, IMPERA keeps Ghost’s winning streak going and proves once again that Mr. Forge surely knows what he’s doing as the group’s leader.

Impera is a solid album and an obvious next step in Ghost's career. It's bittersweet to see the campy Satanic days firmly behind the band, but any old-school fan should still be proud to see what the band has achieved, and it's clear that Impera is the album Ghost needed to take their career to the next level.
