it made me laugh. don't trust reviews from critics that say it's a big star rip off and then sing the praises of rap. lester bangs spins in his grave...

This album is great! Yeah it has a few duds but any Big Star is Super Nova! Jody Stephens really stands out to me in terms of drumming, singing, and song writing. People will remember this record!

Like most great albums, this one takes more than one listening to get it. It seems funny how some poeple don't think this sounds like Big Star but say how good they think 3rd is, which sounds less like Big Star than In Space. If only every reunited band could sound this good.

At first, I was disappointed reading these online reviews and hesitant about getting the album. I did, and through alot of listening I've come to this: It's no #1 record. It's DEFINITELY not Third. But this means that Big Star's back; mistakes and all, we've got future releases to look forward to. "Love Revolution" is abominable, but there are real good songs At first, I was disappointed reading these online reviews and hesitant about getting the album. But this means that Big Star's back; mistakes and all, we've got future releases to look forward to. "Love Revolution" is abominable, but there are real good songs here, and an unsaid promise of more to come. If you understand Chilton's record-the-mistakes ideology and appreciate it, this CD's worth a shot. Not great, but possibly important for future releases. Expand

About a 6 or 7. Just think, this could have been so much worse. There are some bad songs on here (and the appalling 'Makeover') but the strengths outweigh the weakness. P.S. Love Revolution is the best track. Sincere or not, it's fun as hell.

This will get constantly slammed because it isn't #1 Record. And it's not. But it's still an enjoyable effort, and even the corniness and simplicity of some of the tunes grow on you; well, they at least did for me. Maybe in 30 years this will be a classic too. In a way, I'm glad they didn't try remaking their earlier albums.

The album gets better with every listen, with the admitted exceptions of 'Love Revolution' and 'Make Over', which I do not get at all. Yes , there is a sense of humor about it, as alluded by Stephens in the pre-release and Auer at the time of release. This is also a journey through the genres and groups that have influenced Big Star. There is enough of the original DNA in the mix to make this a worthy listen for fans. [1 Oct 2005]
  2. In Space is an album that should appeal to anyone who digs Alex Chilton; however, anyone expecting a Big Star album is going to be more than a bit puzzled by most of these tunes.

It sounds as bitter and cynical as most of Chilton's solo stuff since Big Star originally imploded. [Oct 2005, p.134]
