The thick fuzz of guitars is at the metal end of grunge, impact and volume kept almost oppressively in the red. But once you settle into Kentucky’s MO, the band’s songwriting strengths and musical reach are still here.

After a listen or two, Black Stone Cherry's back-to-the-cradle approach proves that track for track, Kentucky is not only more consistent, but more satisfying than previous albums.

As a whole, this is BSC's dirtiest, heaviest outing yet. [27 Mar 2016, p.51]

Make no mistake, this album is not invoking bluegrass meadows and rolling hills. Instead, the stage is set to the cacophonous sound of Kentucky’s coalmines and devastating tornadoes for one helluva tale.

A real return to form for Black Stone Cherry after the previous two albums failed to compete with the downright classic Folklore andA real return to form for Black Stone Cherry after the previous two albums failed to compete with the downright classic Folklore and Superstition. Combining a more gritty feel to the guitar work, and some excellent head-banging tracks (including a superb rendition of 'War') Kentucky feels more complete than their last few albums... And makes me dying to see what else they've got in store.
