A real return to form for Black Stone Cherry after the previous two albums failed to compete with the downright classic Folklore and Superstition. Combining a more gritty feel to the guitar work, and some excellent head-banging tracks (including a superb rendition of 'War') Kentucky feels more complete than their last few albums... And makes me dying to see what else they've got in store.A real return to form for Black Stone Cherry after the previous two albums failed to compete with the downright classic Folklore and Superstition. As a whole, this is BSC's dirtiest, heaviest outing yet. [27 Mar 2016, p.51]

After a listen or two, Black Stone Cherry's back-to-the-cradle approach proves that track for track, Kentucky is not only more consistent, but more satisfying than previous albums.

The thick fuzz of guitars is at the metal end of grunge, impact and volume kept almost oppressively in the red. But once you settle into Kentucky’s MO, the band’s songwriting strengths and musical reach are still here.
