Shah's voice throughout is fantastic, carrying and castigating her listeners along with her, while her brilliant band nails radio-friendly rock, swirling 4AD-style gothic atmospheres, and perfect post-punk attack. [Jul 2020, p.82]

[An] excellent record: the guitars throughout the album are aggressive and sharp-edged, the bass is consistently robust and roaring, and rhythms are serpentine and oppressive - barely a moment goes by that you aren’t feeling Shah’s own claustrophobia, the weight of her own aging bearing down on your shoulders.

It's bolshy, uncompromising and demands to be played on repeat. [Aug 2020, p.36]

Direct, alert, questing, it's a record that powerfully refuses to settle down. [Summer 2020, p.107]

Both playful and powerful in its delivery, ‘Kitchen Sink’ may be built around the challenges so many of us still face - and are angered by - on a near-daily basis, but it also offers a bit of light and - most importantly - liberating relief.

Kitchen Sink is an album that slowly charms its way into your conscience, and is all the more pleasing for that.

It may not come across as immediately ambitious as her previous work, but there are no tricks or gimmicks that create this intimacy; it’s just clever production and writing that never outstays its welcome.

As2017's "Holiday Destination" was one of my favourite albums of that year. A powerful set of messages delivered with a bagful of top tunes. As a result of this I was always going to be eagerly checking out the follow up and equally had high expectations for it. They are met in part, mostly when she stays closer to the style of the material on "Holiday Destination". There is an other worldly feel to the percussion and rhythms going through the songs and her accented delivery works well. When she gets it right, her lyrics are fantastic but there are a few questionable moments on this front as well. Some of the tracks are absolutely incredible and are essential listening for me while other tracks are less so. It's slightly less consistent than "Holiday Destination" but in a similar way it has strong and meaningful messages with some cracking tunes. Expand

Nadine Shah, from England, has left a strong fingerprint of relevance in contemporanean music. Because of her letters and her musical vision, there is an interesting direction to mine in the future, but for now, she explores her style with focus and seriousness. This album is that exploration that achieves to show features of an important musical strength, but the unbalance between the composition and the creativity is also very present. Ben Hillier es the producer and is in charge of giving originality and authenticity to Nadine's product, but that intention also breaks the focus with sudden changes of musical mood, or it doesn't manage to express all the potential that could have several songs, leaving them in lost causes. Nadine must keep making music because it feels like she will present something that no one will be able to ignore very soon.
