Truly an amazing album. I don’t like pop music too much but Madison did a great job with this album. Me and my kids, bop to this album everyday since it came out because it speaks about serious and mature topics, every artist should talk. Great job Madison!!!!

Such a good debut album!! Madison really took a different turn from what everyone was expecting from her and I loved how inspired she was by alternative music. "Follow the white rabbit" "Emotional Bruises" and "Stay Numb and Carry on" were my top 3, but this album was marvelous!! can't wait for more music from her

It is a very good album, which experiences pop, r&b and a little soul, the lyrics are very personal and tell the story about problems she went through, and they become more personal because she composes all and produces 16 songs from all over the world. the album, the sound quality and very good, I'm hooked.

Madison has evolved from her as she pleases EP so much, this album was EXTRAVAGANT and a MOMENT! every single song had their own type of meaning which correlated to the message she was trying spread and I look up to her so much for not letting people's opinions get to her.

From the heartbreaking ballads to the empowering anthems, Madison has provided a broad spectrum of sounds and artistic executions that provide insight into the life of a 21 year old woman and her struggles, conveying strong & relatable emotions through varied topics of discussion. Notably, the album pushes successfully beyond the boundaries of a breakup album and steps into the world of mental health struggles (Depression, Anxiety & Medication) and the rollercoaster of emotions that can follow (loss, fear, loneliness). Additionally, the album is full of personal flair. With the 'Rick & Morty' sample, to the astrology references, Life Support develops its own personality as a project that only Madison Beer could truly articulate. From the word-play, to the numerical countdowns, Madison Beer possesses a clear understanding of the formula to a great pop song and excels in execution. This is a debut for the history books and one that deserves better. Expand

I was roped in by her 2020 single 'Baby' (simply a great pop song), but I had my doubts on whether or not she was really worth the listen - honestly because I was judging her character by her beauty. It brings a new take on "Pop" and melts Madison's alternative and 60s influences with a traditional "pop" sound. In a time filled with so much trap and disco influencing pop, Madison's debut is refreshing and stands out amongst her peers. With vast versatility she brings back 60s slide guitar production, dabbles in early 2000s pop with her Britney inspired track "Baby", and a presents a strong "Radiohead" influence on the track "Stained Glass" yet manages to keep it all cohesive. The production is refined and very cinematic. It sounds straight out of a movie at times, and is very telling of Beer's personality. This album show cases Beer's struggles with self harm, psychiatric treatment, borderline personality disorder, sexual assault, and depression, through the lens of a break up. Though no matter how crippling dealing with these topics may be, Madison shows the reality of handling these issues in real time. Not everyday is going to be a low. The peaks and valleys of this album are extremely relatable, one day you may wake up with a smile, and the next in tears. Through 17 tracks, (an intro, 2 interludes, and an outro included) you can see how Beer tackles this breakup head on, hauntingly singing "I fear this will be the death of me", and ending as she somberly sings "Guess it's true I'm never getting over you." This album is a great listen with gorgeous lyrics that take you deeper into Madison's personal life, "So I hold myself to breathe, hurt me so I feel used to do these things so effortlessly." being a clear standout. Wow.. if Madison didn’t already convince you she’s more than a pretty face with her well crafted mainstream pop EP “As She Pleases” back in 2018 then, alternative pop “Life Support” will definitely smack you in the face and give you that reminder. “Life Support” is an honest and vulnerable piece of work that will keep you on the edge of your seat for 46 minutes. Whether she tacklesWow.. if Madison didn’t already convince you she’s more than a pretty face with her well crafted mainstream pop EP “As She Pleases” back in 2018 then, alternative pop “Life Support” will definitely smack you in the face and give you that reminder. “Life Support” is an honest and vulnerable piece of work that will keep you on the edge of your seat for 46 minutes. Whether she tackles subjects like mental health issues on the beautiful and haunting “Effortlessly”, toxic relationships on the energizing trap-pop “Good in Goodbye” or even sexual assault on the psychedelic pop (à la Tame Impala) “Sour Times”, Madison does not shy away from talking about taboo/difficult subjects in her music which sets her apart from most of her peers in terms of lyrical content. The production of the songs is the cherry on top. From Radiohead to Tame Impala to Lana Del Rey to Daft Punk to name a few, it is clear that her musical inspirations reflect on the album which is definitely not a bad thing since Madison always adds her flavor to the recipe which elevates the song to a whole other level. Madison pours her heart out on “Life Support” and we can definitely tell she was involved in the writing process of her songs since the lyrical content of all those songs sound way too personal to have been written for her. Indeed she wrote on every song of the album (17 songs) and even co-produced 16 tracks out of 17 which is quite impressive given the fact that it’s only her debut. In conclusion, “Life Support” is a strong record that could definitely be Madison’s key to success if she keeps milking singles off this album and has better promotion. This album definitely sets her apart from the crowd and I think she’s definitely on her way to become the next big thing if she plays her cards right. Expand

A 50s pop sound is infused throughout the entire album, from Madison’s first “baby” in the song “Interlude” to the guitar in “Channel Surfing/The End”, a perfect album closer. Her chord progressions are so unique, and I found myself falling in love with the amount of passion seeping through the songs on Life Support. Knowing how hard she fought for this album, in so many different ways, I am so proud, and I can feel the love that went into making it. There are no skips for me, and I’m so excited to see how she develops her honest lyricism and beautiful vocals in the future. Expand

This is album was surprising to me, I didn't really have any expectations before listening to it. I have been listening to it since it came out, so it has amazing replay value and some songs just keep getting better.
When she sings, I believe in her sincerity and my heart aches during much of the album. It really is an open album, speaking on mental health, being taken advantage of in her vulnerability, not belonging, loving and losing, and how we cope with life. Her vocals also add layer to her work that is emotive and welcomes the listener to sit and listen and even cry with her. I really do appreciate her talking about mental health and her bpd diagnosis.
Her musical style/sound is seen throughout and I will enjoy hearing more from her in the future. I will be rating it an 8 since I think the album could do with some more seemless songwriting, but I dont doubt that that is where she is going with her already developing diaristic writing style.

Life support is an astonishing album that tells the journey of struggles that only someone who went through phases of live that involved any kind of true, deep, sad feeling could totally understand. If someone ever dares to call it "shallow", then it would mean that the person lacks a little empathy or never experienced how depression or any other type of mental health issue can affect people. Madison's album was able to cover relatable subjects such as heartbreaks and feminism but also covered darker aspects of life, like how she handled the fact that she had to take some remedies to get through with her mental state as we heard in Effortlessly and how words and actions can hurt her just as much as it hurts any of us, besides many people seeing her as a "pretty girl that never has problems or bad emotions or bad behavior" in Stained Glass.
The body of work is awesome and deep and, besides lacking a better organization of the tracks, it still managed to handle all the emotion needed to fulfill it's duty. Therefore, it's an amazing album that makes someone like me -who still struggles to fight his demons everyday-, enjoy it, feel represented and, most importantly, feel the need emphasize that speaking, talking or singing about mental health is not a shallow action, but a very much needed movement.

Madison Beer’s debut album is pleasant, but can’t help but sound outdated and overdue.

However, it fails to get a proper message across and lacks a sense of cohesion, and simply feels cliche at times with childlike songwriting. It’s a shame, as Beer is obviously talented and eager to share her art to the world, but the album fails to meet up to the “hype”, as such, it was given. But we have to bare in mind, this is a debut album. Her first attempt at a full body of work, as her prior extended play titled, “As She Pleases” feels half full. But her future looks very promising, and we could definitely see Beer as a “Main Pop Girl”.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Madison Beer has been pursuing music for a couple of years now and hasn’t been the best in the past musically. However, this album really showcases her evolution as an artist. She displays a lot of brutally honest lyrics and her vocals have shown a lot of growth as well. She takes influences from artists such as Lana Del Rey, Tame Impala, and even The Beatles. But adds her own style to the artists she was influenced by and doesn’t completely emulate their sound. The production on this album is also another reason to listen to this beauty. There are times when there is too much vocoder added to her voice and times when vocoder shouldn’t have been added. Some songs could have been shorter and some a little longer. But this is a great debut album regardless of its faults. Highly recommended! Expand

album muito morno, sem tirar que é óbvio o fato da Madison ter trabalhado apenas em seus singles, sendo assim, na minha opinião, as únicas faixas aceitáveis do album. Sem tirar o fato que seu vocal é muito robótico.

One of the best debut albums I've heard in a while. Madison gives heavily influenced vibes from the likes of Lana Del Rey, and Ariana Grande throughout the album, and her low register voice glides through the album as smooth as ice. I don't think there is one song on here that I would skip, besides the closing track "Channel Surfing/ The End", but that track is more of a tribute and a "thank you" from Madison to her listeners, rather than a legit production. There is a song on here for every mood, and this album will make you feel all sorts of ways from start to finish, all of which are amazing. For a debut album, Madison's song writing is very impressive. The metaphors appear as poetry on some of these tracks. I had big expectations for this album, and was very excited for the release, and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend listening to this front to back, in order. To end things off my top 5 tracks on this are (in no order because it's hard to choose): Default, Homesick, Selfish, Emotional Bruises, and Sour Times. Expand

Maddison Beer was never really an artist I had on my radar. I had heard her name mixed in with the Tik Toker crowd and that was enough for me to completely ignore her. However, when I heard indie Music lovers say good things about this album I had to give it a shot, and wow am I happy I did.

Life Support is a fantastic debut pop record that Madison fought for almost a decade to release.

Life Support is a fantastic debut pop record that Madison fought for almost a decade to release. Madison's mental torment she dealt with throughout the years between being dropped from labels and the internet harassment she deals with really bleads through onto the record and gives it such emotional depth.

Incredible leads vocals backed with forward thinking dark pop production is what really makes this album shine. Songs like "Stained Glass" give heartbreaking insight to the bullying Madison has endured over the years with some really chilling reverb and guitar makes this song truly stand out. Other cuts like "Effortlessly" and "Stay Numb And Carry On” also give a different look into Madison's mental health with some dark and chilling r&b/pop production.

Some more favorites of mine are songs like "Follow The White Rabbit" with a baseline so killer I couldn't believe it was in a pop song. Another impressive song is "Sour Times" with a great drum line and a message that a lot of women need to hear.

There are some more mediocre moments on the record on the record with songs like "Baby" and "Homesick". "Baby" has well intentions and is meant to be a dark party song. However, with cringeworthy production and underwritten lyrics it definitely one of the worst on the record. Homesick has much better written lyrics about not feeling like you belong however the production is very bland, and I know Madison is a huge Rick And Morty fan but the sound clip from the show at the end does not go whatsoever.

However, the record definitely sticks the ending with “Emotional Bruises” and “Everything Happens For A Reason”. Both fantastic songs with extremely creative production. The interludes on this album are also great.
Overall “Life Support” is a great debut record with minor flaws. If you take this album for what it is, a forward-thinking pop record. Then I believe you won’t be disappointed. Madison Beer definitely has a promising future and I’m excited to see what she makes in the future. Also if your wondering if she can actually sing live, yes, yes she can. I saw her in Seattle back in November and it was a wonderful show. Highly recommend checking her out.

Such a shame that Madison Beer is underrated. Life Support is one of the best albums of the year. She really outdid my expectations and made me surprise with this album. This album is at best mediocre. It seems like they took the same idea for a song, repeated it 15 times, added 2 interludes, and that's it. She is trying to show how serious and heartfelt the album is by playing the mental health card. The album sound very... sad. Even the instrumentals are so repeatable, bland and monotone, that it just floods your ears with sadness. The lyrical content on this LP is the worst part with no doubt. Beer is a grown woman, acting like a 15 year old wannabe pop star, and the songs sound like written in a middle schooler's diary. The lyrics are so repetitive and predictable, to the point you can get mad at just how much she talks about boys, breakup and other **** For some reason, in some song she also portrays herself as this wild, quirky pick-me girl, which "isn't like the other ones". Tracks like "baby" and "GOOD in goodbye" is just her bragging about the fact how she can hurt any boy and that she isn'y weak and is different from the rest. This isn't exacly what I would call mature or fresh lyrical content, because after a few tracks it gets incredibly boring. The instrumentals add on to the effect of blandness and lack of personality. After a while, they all sound the same, and only a couple of them (for example "follow the white rabbit") stand out in some way. But the other ones are those melodic, slow and depressing instrumentals, which increases the sadness, but also boredom. Also Madison didn't seem to make anything original when it comes to singing. On different tracks we see how she imitates other respected singers and pop stars (Lana Del Rey, Arianna Grande, etc.) Overall, the album is extremly dull, predictable and unintresing. It can really be iritating to listen to someone bragging about their breakups and love stories for 40 minutes. I hope Madison will find a wave of fresh air and originality during the work on her next LP, because this thing isn't worth your time, and your nerves. Expand

While some tracks could stand to have their ideas explored more fully – in particular “Default” which ends suddenly right as things start to swell – this is still a satisfying listen from start to finish.
  3. On a lesser album, the eclecticism might lead to a lack of coherence, but this record is always threaded through with Beer’s diaristic lyricism. With its consistent, gut-punching honesty and witty wordplay, you’ll always find something special on ‘Life Support’.
