It's a dazzler, a dynamic folk-pop record steeped in style and bristling with modern touches. [Oct 2021, p.76]

It's a lot of ground to cover in a swift 36 minutes but the nice thing about Lindsey Buckingham is that it feels as vibrant as it is controlled. It's the work of an expert craftsman who relies on his skills as composer, arranger, producer, vocalist, and guitarist to sculpt songs that comfort without succumbing to nostalgia.

The album bustles with defiant spirit while leaning heavily on deeply catchy songwriting and production.

Emerging out of a fractious period, Buckingham is at his unapologetically unfiltered best on an album that teeters between yearning reflection and fast-paced kinetics, ranking as one of the tightest records released in his own right

Throughout the press cycle for Lindsey Buckingham, he’s made clear that this record was made in his home studio without anyone else playing on it. At times, this adds to the album’s tightness and limited scale, but it occasionally begs for more inventive playing.

[“Blue Light” is] a wonderfully off-kilter jaunt with a big, sing-along chorus and a general message of good over evil. It revels in the barefoot joie de vivre that Buckingham nails from time to time a would-be children’s song made for adult ears. “Blind Love”, has a more traditional mid-tempo arrangement but similarly open-hearted chorus that will keep even the most cynical listener warm at night. These songs alone are reasons to be thankful that Buckingham is still alive and ticking, a seasoned composer at the height of his talents.

Drum machine led “Swan Song” is the album’s most inventive and surprising song, proving that the creator of “Tusk” has still got his knack for innovation and creating a daring pop hook. While the weakest tracks here tend to veer into self-pity.
