    Whilst the album may lack the urgent politically infused rush of Brickbat, it’s a certainly a more considered affair and one that’s comfortable in its own skin. It’s a beautifully textured body of work that merges atonal guitars, spacey synth flourishes, and sophisticated bass lines with layered vocals and is clearly an album informed by the clarity of experience.

    This new album is great. It’s even better than the first album. Full of beautiful dream pop songs.

    A success, yet an odd one - this is less angular, less political, less urgent, less everything compared to their first album on many levels, aA success, yet an odd one - this is less angular, less political, less urgent, less everything compared to their first album on many levels, a step backward toward that next Lush album the fans expected the first time around. A few more uptempto numbers could have made this a 9 or 10 - the rolling "Scratching At The Lid" is better than the best song on most other bands' albums - but the mix of shoegaze and jazz is hard to resist. Okay, make that impossible. Oh, and did I mention they're good enough to play whatever the hell they want and sound great regardless?… Expand
