Delivers more truth and meaning than most current pop hits combined. Being a twin, it's nice to see twin sisters collaborate and make such an impact. Beautiful minds, beautiful songs. Also, as good as their old records in its own way.

Robert Christgau basically nailed this one: "Every track is a three-minute formalist construct that captures a mood rather than a three-minute romanticist statement that expresses an emotion. Some of these moods are more complex than others. But every one is catchy.". Yes! In the end, every single one of them is catchy in spite of the evident flaws. It's in-your-face joyful music that isn't afraid of being criticized for lacking depth or being too "obvious". All the tracks are short and on point with a good-to-great hook. Better than their last one, for sure. Expand

The neat songwriting style of the Canadian sisters is what mainstream pop music needs to be challenging and smart again.

Longtime fans will be no doubt be utterly disappointed in the fully complete transition the girls have made to pop. The lyrics are thin at best.

More recent fans who found them with Heartthrob will be somewhat satisfied, but don't look for equivalent songs to "Closer" or "I Was A Fool" on this album. While I give the album a 7 in comparison to all the other junk out there, I expected

Love You to Death IS solid. In a way, it’s sort of like those now-cherished, then forgotten, 80s downtempo pop albums ala the first Human League and Modern English LPs.

The Quins bring pathos and depth to sleek Katy Perry/Lady Gaga-esque electropop, true, but reaching for the golden ring too often dilutes the inventiveness and creative abandon that once made a new T&S record such an exhilarating proposition. [No. 132, p.59]

Despite these obligatory comparisons to their 2013 effort, though, Love You to Death is ultimately its own beast, one that finds Tegan and Sara working effectively with confessional songwriting and further developing their enthusiasm for synthpop’s visceral pleasures.
