Lover sounds like Taylor's attempt to go back to her sound that get her lots of praise years ago, but unfortunately she falls flat on her feet. Her lyrics have gone down and now sound like something a high school student would write. The production is okay, Taylor's voice is okay, she's not a vocalist. What else can she bring to the table other than songwriting?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This album is a chronicle of love throughout the ages of a person (schoolgrounds to adulthood), from friendship to family and lover. But it's not JUST that. If you've been waiting for Taylor Swift to go political in song? Miss Americana is the one for you. Through a metaphor of a friendship or relationship, she paints her experience as an American hearing the news and being in the center of it, which, as a foreigner, I enjoy. Spoiler alert: 2016 is the apocalypse.
If you enjoyed a parody of her portrayal in the likes of Blank Space? London Boy is for you.
If you would enjoy a love song about Karlie Kloss, that describes the anxiety and fragility of an established, happy relationship that you're afraid to lose? Cornelia Street is for you.
If you can relate to feeling helpless as a relative struggles with their health? Soon You'll Get Better is for you.
The music of this album is airy and dreamlike, and it fits well with the (albeit extremely coton candy colored) aesthetics chosen for the album. It's a music to think to, to hike to, to lie in the grass to. While Reputation was wrathful and angry, Lover is letting go and exposing what is INSIDE the armor, protected by all the spikes of Reputation. It feels, in terms of evolution, the continuation of 1989, after the shield of Reputation has been put securely in place.

I've been listening to Lover non stop for the past week and I think I'm in a place where I can say it's her best album yet (a spot I've continuously gave to Speak Now). Lover comes in at a stark contrast to the dark vengeful sounds of Reputation, made during a time in her life where she felt her lowest. A lot of people felt the persona she adopted during that era wasn't herself. Lover comes in at a stark contrast to the dark vengeful sounds of Reputation, made during a time in her life where she felt her lowest. A lot of people felt the persona she adopted during that era wasn't herself. With Lover it's more of a return to face; going back to the bright masterful songwriter we fell in love with. The album features her best songwriting since Red, as well as a nostalgic return to country on the title track that'll put you in the mind of her earlier work. All in all it's a happy bubbly album that'll remind you that her penmanship is unmatched; Miss Americana is a political song that uses High School as a metaphor, Cornelia Street explains the devastating after effects of heartbreak, and You Need To Calm Down is a fun song that embraces the LGBT. You can't go wrong with this album. Expand

On Lover she explores all the genres she done before and mix all in one and truly lovely album. She is a truly writer. She can transform poetry in music. There's some boring songs with beautiful lyrics like "It's Nice to Have a Friend" and "False God" that helps to lose the concept of the album judging by how it sounds, but

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lover touches many aspects of love as Taylor Swift always did previously with her past albums but this time with more recognition to the smallest details.

Giving a nod to reputation, she leads the album with I Forgot That You Existed. I might've expected some kind of diss track. In a way, it is but not in the way I thought. The song produces a new sound that I think Taylor wants to explore. It's a nice opening track.

Cruel Summer is obviously about the whole fiasco in 2016 where #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty trended for quite a long while. What I love about it is that Taylor still managed to find herself a man who could stick with her through that apocalyptic summer. She found love in her worst times. That's so romantic!

What's even more romantic is the third track, Lover. I can't listen to the title track without my hips automatically swaying to the rhythm. It's the perfect song to dance to on your wedding day, or when the date comes to an end and you want to have the last dance. As for me, I'm as single as I can be yet I feel just as in love as any other person who's in a relationship. Lover makes me feel that whatever happens, love will always exist.

It's The Man. It's 'the' song. It's a track that women like me have been waiting for. She took the same direction she went with Blank Space as she did with this song, portraying some kind of alter ego. The only different thing is the storyline. In Blank Space, she was the serial dater. The Man speaks volumes with how she would be portrayed if she were a man in a sexist music industry that's involved in a take-down culture, putting down women for the exact same thing men are praised for. She speaks the truth though. With her immense success and fame, if she were a man, she'd be 'the' man.

Taylor's been known to have the most emotional song reserved as the fifth track on her album. Releasing The Archer before album release day might not have been the best move because I see now that many Swifties have focused more on the other tracks. Yet it's vulnerable, raw and emotional. It's honest writing coming straight from the deepest part of her heart. It's not the 'I'm sad that this doesn't work out' track like All Too Well. The Archer is a reflection of her overall emotions toward her life as Taylor Swift. It's what being Taylor Swift feels like. It's raw.

I Think He Knows is a song that would make me literally skip down 16th Avenue if I ever walk there. It's a song you want to play when you're having fun in a car ride and you just want to tell your lover how they make you feel but, you know, they might already know.

Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince. American politics. Enough said.

The first time I heard Paper Rings, I was like, "Is this a soundtrack to a chick flick?" The production takes me back to the late '90s when movies like Clueless and 10 Things I Hate About You were the talk of the town.

I hope she can still walk Cornelia Street again. This 9th track tells a story of their relationship but mostly how she openly admits that she doesn't want to lose him. The lyric that truly breaks my heart is 'That's the kinda heartbreak time could never mend'.

Death By A Thousand Cuts is a sad song with an upbeat production.

London Boy is very dramatic and it's so Taylor Swift of her to write such a detailed timeline of the places she goes to with her lover. It's a cute story of how she falls in love with the boy from London and how that slowly becomes her new home.

    Soon You'll Get Better.

I'd say that False God is sexy, romantic and fearless. It's diving into the relationship despite all the worst things you've been associated with and still finding the raw romance in it.

You Need To Calm Down shows three different stories of her as a person, her friends and sexual orientation, and the representation of women in the music industry.

Afterglow, kind of like Back To December, witnesses how Taylor's the one at fault and willing to do anything to keep the relationship going. But this time, she sounds fiercer and more desperate as portrayed in the bridge. She knows it's as real as it can get and she never wants to let it go.

ME! is about 'embracing your individuality' and being proud of who you really are.

It's Nice To Have a Friend was confusing at first. I was wondering where she was going with this song. I like the haunting and hollow sound of the track.

Daylight. It reminds me most of her fourth album, Red. I feel like Daylight is the sequel to it. 'I don't know if you know who you are until you lose who you are.' 'You are what you love.' Sounds familiar? It's the perfect closing song to the album.

If you look a little closer, you'll realize that the lyrics in Lover give many nods to the ones in her previous albums. I think Taylor has outdone herself this time. Lover is a love letter to love itself, indeed.

    Amazing.
The vibe of this album is beautiful!.
I felt the perfect mixture between joy, love, reflection, healing, adventure and sadness as well (this last in DBATC & SYGB to be more specific).
Swift once again did an excellent job with this jewel, by now, my favorite album this year.

She came with an album full of love experiences and lyrics not much better than her previous albums. It´s an average pop album to spend time with some friends.

13 years into her career, Taylor Swift continues to craft exquisite lyrics, songs, and albums across the board. Lover is no exception. Lover delivers closure to reputation, Taylor's best quality lyrics and production since 1989, and a record number of songs that are standing as among the best in her discography. I cried for the first time since Speak Now. I laughed for the first time since reputation. I was shocked for the first time since 1989. This album almost surpasses 1989 in quality. It is overall better than her country efforts, and is easily in contest to be her second best pop album. 1989 closed the chapter of her first 5 albums. Lover closes the chapter opened with reputation and opens the door for everything that will follow. This album definitely contains the best lyric of her career to date (which I won't say for the sake of spoilers, but it's the end of the bridge of track 2). Taylor's discography is known for having revelational verses; in this album, it's the bridges' turn to shine. I can barely express the euphoria and the pain I felt listening. This album feels different from her others in the best possible way. From the return of solo-written tracks to the songs that feel like sequels to the best songs of her discography, I cannot wait to see what happens next. Taylor has consistently shown us that her darkest material is still blaringly optimistic. And this is her lightest material. I would highly recommend listening and seeing the sheer golden daylight of emotion that that entails. Expand

This album has no mission breakthrough, how her voice has become so rough and inferior, the whole concept and core of the album is so simple, the melody is not catchy at all.

This album is... confusing. Why can't she just SING? I'm sick of talented people taking the easy way out on albums recently. I don't like the many, many cringey lyrics and too-on-the-nose songs.

As an avid Taylor Swift fan, I may be biased but I don’t think that’s the case as I definitely wouldn’t rate other albums as high, namely Reputation. This is Swift’s most mature, and probably best album lyrically. The production is also great, the song “Lover” being a highlight of this. This album is incredibly introspective and sensitive as Swift gets more personal than most other albums as seen in “The Archer” and “Soon you’ll Better.” Don’t be turned away by the singles, especially ME! - the album is much smarter than what these would give off. The inclusion of these type of songs (pretty much just ME) are the reason the album doesn’t hit a 10. All in all, Lover is a pop masterpiece and you should give it a try. Standouts of the album: “Cruel Summer,” “Death by 1000 Cuts,” and “Lover.” Expand

Absolutely her best album to date. She just gets better with time. A richly complex and textured album that spans every genre from country to jazz to punk. Insanely good lyrics that tell a different story every time you listen. Best songs (imo): False God, Cruel Summer, The Archer, Lover, cornelia street, and death by a thousand cuts

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Taylor’s seventh studio album is possibly her best by far. Excellent production, flawless songwriting and improved vocals from Swift make this album a delight to the ears. Taylor mixes childhood melancholy, love and infatuation, and the complexities of the political climate in the US flawlessly. Swift is at her most mature — and happiest, and this spirit makes itself known in sing-a-long feel good tracks such as London Boy and Paper Rings. Undoubtedly a fan favourite and the magnum opus of Swift’s work thus far. Expand

Haven't been this excited and content after listening to a pop album for years. that alone deserves a 10/10! This album feels like a full circle of her, musically and philosophically. with the musical spectrum of Red, passion of Fearless, confessional songwriting of Speak Now, and pop delight of 1989, Lover feels like a complete picture.

This album is, indeed, a love letter to love itself — in its unabridged, most raw, most vulnerable, most passionate, most golden form. Arguably Taylor's best album till date. She has done a magnificent job — be it the verses, the bridge, or the vocals, she's surpassed her own standards, and in the most glorious way ever.

Ultimately, Lover is overstuffed and meandering, but serves as a positive reprieve from her past struggles in the public eye, and represents an artist at the peak of her creativity, power, and—one hopes—continued romantic bliss.

Lover is a fabulous record, full of super-fun standout pop hits that make your heart burst. It oozes with Swift’s much more palatable upbeat sass. She’s in love and also thinking about different kinds of love.
