    Even the bright spots in the album’s composition—the off-beat piano cascades in “Death By A Thousand Cuts” and the pulsating synth of “Cruel Summer” hat Taylor seems like she’s never been better. She’s unburdened by love, and that explosive happiness makes itself present across this record.

Soon you’ll get better actually is a beautiful song with a beautiful meaning but it could’ve had more. False god I listened to three times and I honestly couldn’t tell you what it sounds like. You need to Calm down is the definition of queer baiting especially dyeing your hair the bisexual flag when you aren’t bisexual. That’s inappropriate. Afterglow is a wannabe deep track that gets it lyrics from a tumblr post by a woman named Sharon who runs a soccer moms club.And I’m really sorry ME! didn’t make the cut for the trolls movie :( It’s nice to have a friend has a literal children’s choir which is probably why it’s the best on the album. They did what you tired to do. Final track, daylight. Maybe one day when you don’t rip off smaller artists you’ll get why this is so bad. Overall a genre less album and not in the good way. A skip.     A few good tracks but mostly just another bland pop record. The song Lover is pretty good but there really isn’t much growth since Taylor’s previous albums. Country Taylor will always be superior.

Ever since red, Taylor has been really taking a hit when it comes to the fact that she has not grown as an artist or matured in her music or artisty. She feels even more clueless than the 16 year old girl she started off as with self titled. I genuinely did not enjoy a single track off of this album besides "you need to calm down" and that was only because of the hook. It also didn't help that Taylor was trying to "get the gay vote" with this album. Them there are the ridiculous actions of her fans. They are so utterly childish and this album goes to show the kind of audience she is pandering to. Taylor Swift is a strong, intelligent woman with great writing skills and she simply has not prooven this to the public in a long time but people choose to eat it up. I really hope that Taylor will start to grow as an artist again rather than the decline of the last couple of albums. It didn't help that she pumped this album out to push reputation under the rug, an album that very much failed to meet my expectations. The old Taylor is definitely dead and it seems it is for the worst.… Expand

    Well, dear Taylor, you can keep buying good reviews for your trash, but we are not deaf or stupid. The whole album sounds like recorded in karaoke. The vocal in this album is extremely horrible. Some parts, like the verses of " cruel summer" and “I Think He Knows” , may cause physiologic discomfort. The production is messy, making this album more noisy and inferior. Everything in this album has been done before by other artists and Taylor Swift herself, and has been down much better. You can even find some identical melodies. The only theme that appears in every song is that “I’m always the victim”. The opening song, “ I forgot that you existed”, is the stupidest of the whole album. If you did forget your ex, you would have let everything go, instead of writing a lame song chattering about how bad he hurt you years ago. With the stupid lyrics and the monopoly melodies, Taylor Swift sounds more like a drunk woman who misses her ex so bad but keeps making up excuses about how she shouldn’t miss him. The most shameful moment in reputation comes “The Man”. Compared to Beyonce’s “If I Were A Boy”, Taylor Swift sounds like a joker. She daydreamed that her career should have been much more successful if she were a man. Skipping into the music industry in a lovely and innocent girl image, becoming famous for writing touching music from a sensitive female, always portraying herself as a heartbroken woman and a victim, always dissing her exes, getting a huge fandom for being “American sweetheart”, Taylor Swift is the female celebrity who takes the most advantage of being a woman, and now she is complaining like men in this industry can do whatever they want without getting criticism. Well, if she were a man, she would have been laughed at for being over-sensitive. She would have been shamed for always shading his ex-girlfriends. If he cheated, like what she did to Calvin Harris, nobody would stand out and use feminism to protect him. It is really disgusting that Taylor Swift used her mother’s private medical condition to hype her single and album again and again. By the way, her mother’s radiant look seems to have nothing related with cancer. When the politics, women and LGBT needs Taylor Swift, she kept her mouth shut and hid away. When Taylor Swift flops and needs hype for her music, she talks endlessly about politics, feminism and LGBT rights. It is so offensive that she equate the LGBT community to drama queens in the YNTCD music video. Also, it’s so shameless of her to equate the LGBT community’s fight for equal rights to her dramas with other celebrities. The only good song in this album is “Death By A Thousands Cuts”. It is a sad song written in a typical Taylor Swift story-telling style. The lyrics are heartbreaking and the bridge is emotional. But compared to any sad songs Taylor Swift made before, like “All Too Well” and “Breathe”, this song is mediocre. This is 2019. 19 years old Lil Nas X shows us that music genres are boundless, and ”Old Town Road” reaches new milestones on charts. 17 years old Billie Eilish writes about anxiety, global warming and drug abuse, making startling music videos. Meanwhile, 30 years old Taylor Swift is still playing the victim, writing about her feud with other celebrities and writing Utopia fairy tales. There is no breakthrough, no touching feelings, no deep reflection of love and life, or complexity of a human being in Lover. There are only right or wrong, good or bad, pathetic daydreams, delusions of being the victim and shallow politic views. This album is like a box of over-flavored junk food. It does have flavors, but it is over-flavored and messy, and it is junk food anyway. It is also like a piece of colorful trash. The hype for this album is all over the place. The publicized reviews are full of flatters. Thousands of teenager fans are losing their minds. But under the glamorous cover, this album is plastic, shallow and trash.    … Expand

This album has a lot of repetitive beats and melodies and very weak lyrics compared to taylor’s songwriting talent. A very disappointing work of art. Would not recommend at all.

    Unfortunately, all of the album's songs sound the same. I can find no artistic growth or variety on her recent albums since they all have the same pop sound (her other album, Reputation, included some surprising -for her style- songs, but that was it).
    The only song I find interesting is miss Americana & the heartbreak prince.

    Nothing stands out to me in this album. The production as well as lyrics and vocals sound very bland to me.

    Boring album. Reputation and 1989 were much more better. Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish and Lana Del Rey deserves their recognition.

    Lover may be Taylor Swift's best album since 2010's Speak Now. It doesn't quite match the highs of that album, but certainly doesn't match the lows either. Throughout the album, the listener gets the sense that... this is Taylor Swift in her purest, most brutally honest form especially in songs such as Soon You'll Get Better, which is the most heartbreaking song I've listened to all year.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’ll just say it. I really dislike the new Taylor swift album lover. My mom taught me to not use the word hate... First off the album is too long. The entire first half sounds the same with no pace change until we get to soon you’ll get better. The opening song I forgot that you existed is a recycled version of this is why we can’t have nice things. With undertones of every other song on reputation. The next half of the album is getaway car with worse lyrics/bridges/choruses. The beautiful song she wrote for her mother is arranged in the exact same way Ronan was. The man lyrics are awful. All of the lyrics pretty much are. I would rate this album 0/10 and will probably never listen to it again. There is no growth here. There are hints of moments. The archer explores themes of a relationship but some of the lyrics in that song pretty much ruin it. “Cut off my nose just to spite my face” anyways I’ve seen virtually no criticisms of this album so here’s my take.… Expand

    Ultimately, Lover is overstuffed and meandering, but serves as a positive reprieve from her past struggles in the public eye, and represents an artist at the peak of her creativity, power, and—one hopes—continued romantic bliss.

    Lover is a fabulous record, full of super-fun standout pop hits that make your heart burst. It oozes with Swift’s much more palatable upbeat sass. She’s in love and also thinking about different kinds of love.
