I had nothing against Lil Uzi Vert really besides that he has an annoying voice. His music was never something on my radar and I was not really planning on listening to it. However I decided since the entire thing was available to stream on Soundcloud and you don't have to have a special account to listen to it, I decided why not.

While Uzi's voice is kind of annoying, he's just not a very good MC. His flow averages out to being basic and most of his words and rhymes range from generic money and hoes anthems to cringeworthy when he tries to be "real". But the major kneecap in this album is the production. Uzi's appeal is mixing cloud rap with harsh trap rap, and the results are a mess. None of the two mixes at all and it just ends up being an autotune and EDM-trap nightmare. The high-hats and distorted bass kill the ethereal synths when it's not being aggressively repetitive. I now know why people don't like Uzi. The tracks with the guest features (Neon Guts with Pharrell and UnFazed with the Weeknd) and XO Tour Llif3 are the only decent tracks here.

this album truly shows what hip hop has gone to. now hear me out when i say this album is bad. it isn't bad because of the production but because of uzi himself. his voice is annoying but what i have a problem with is that his lyrics are either all over the place or talk about the same thing every other average rapper would. like some of my friends will trash talk rappers like Eminem andthis album truly shows what hip hop has gone to. now hear me out when i say this album is bad. it isn't bad because of the production but because of uzi himself. his voice is annoying but what i have a problem with is that his lyrics are either all over the place or talk about the same thing every other average rapper would. like some of my friends will trash talk rappers like Eminem and Kendrick Lamar but right after praise this guy for talking about money brand names and women. the only tracks that are ok are Xo tour life (only for its hook and beat), Unfazed (literally only because of the weeknd) and 444 + 222 ( the repetition honestly isnt that annoying to me also you ain't slick just name the song 666) other than that the only one i can see an argument for would be neon guts but from opening track to the closing this thing is painful Expand

This album isn't good. This review may be a bit boring, because this album is boring. I really only enjoyed 2 songs on this record, 'Sauce it Up'' and 'X0 T0UR LIF3'. The lyrics were pretty goofy at some points, like ''She says she does fine but I'm cooler (I'm so cool) i got more diamonds than your jewler. (Bling Blaow) All my girls dress like they work at Hooters." And as I mentionedThis album isn't good. This review may be a bit boring, because this album is boring. As evidence there's an entire song of The Weekend just saying, "I'm un fazed", a billion times over and over. Uzi's rapping was so unmemorable that's all I remmeber of the song. But yeah thats's all I really gotta say about this album. Expand

Although Uzi's post-breakup pain rears its head throughout the entirety of the album, many of the tracks are too fun to get too bogged down in emotions.

The breadth of sounds covered will scan as inconsistency to all but the most pious Uzi devotees, but it’s hard to imagine anything else serving as a more comprehensive document of rap in 2017.

As for today's singing rappers, Vert fits in comfortably next to the likes of Fetty Wap and French Montana, and I have little qualms with calling him a better writer than the latter. The production is a little bit more of a mixed bag.
