I bask in the brilliance of FKA Twigs. Her wonderful combination of hip-hop and electronica is simply ART. Do you see the cover ART? That is ART. She is an ARTist. Do you see that she is too ARTistic to even spell "Melissa"? That is ART. Has anyone ever noticed how anyone reviewing anything by FKA Twigs talks about how said album is "art" and then reiterate about how its

Has anyone ever noticed how anyone reviewing anything by FKA Twigs talks about how said album is "art" and then reiterate about how its "art" and it's artistic merits.. We should be able to listen and judge for ourselves rather than having how artistic it is hammered in our heads several times. Y'all should write for Pitchfork! Lol

For real though, M3LL155273627187236726182X (3artsy5me) is just simply more of the same from one of the most overrated pop singers out at the moment. She tries so hard to be seductive and artsy, but she always comes off as a try-hard. There isn't much here that you haven't already heard in LP1 (another overrated album of hers). Uses some autotune here and there as well. I don't understand the hype behind this singer, to be honest.

Her music and what goes with it, meaning album visuals, video clips, arrangement of tracks and their cohesive structure testifies to this approach. She uses everything she can in order to delineate her suffering, identity, hopes and finitude. Few musical projects give such a testimony about being seen as a woman in this first quarter of the 21st century.

In that case 'M3LL155X' appears as a major statement of her uneasiness. If the songs benefit from original and meaningful lyrics, they also take (dis)advantage of his experimental electro style, sparse vocal effects and an over-represented repetitiveness (as it is the case on 'I'm Your Doll', 'Glass & Patron' and on 'Mothercreep', which makes an impressive total of three songs out of the five present in this EP). This definitely is something about discovering FKA twigs' work and piece of art but as the first impressions passes it lets too few room to replayability. Add this up to the particular mindset you have to put yourself on in order to deeply dive in twigs' music and you will realize how situational and limited in time the satisfaction of listening to 'M3LL155X' can be. Too few artists nowadays manage to take us aside as FKA twigs does, bombarding us with disjointed, engaging messages and rhythms that encourage active participation of the listener in the work by which he lets himself be taken by the hand. Except the fact that here we have too often the impression to be thrown in a undefined war rather than to be taken by the hand. All along there are too many distorsions, moments of raging emptiness and elusive messages.

The vocals still send chills down the spine and everything becomes more grand and obtuse with every song. FKA twigs is striking, stunning weird and if her debut album assured that, this follow-up only strengthened her case.

The effect of the album is soothing and challenging all at once; full of complex messaging yet equally suitable as backdrop for studying; worthy of lingering concentration on each and every note or dozing off to on an airplane.

Here twigs sounds even more poised and self-assured.
