I have followed Dawes for a long time. I saw a them in concert some time ago and they gave me an Eagles feel to their music. I have to say they have upped their game on this album. Always tight musically, this has a mellow jazz rock feel which is right in my wheelhouse. Lead guitar reminds me of a Walter Becker jam. I could probably do without the synthesizer on the first cut but eachI have followed Dawes for a long time. I saw a them in concert some time ago and they gave me an Eagles feel to their music. Competence and creativity are never in question, even though every one of these numbers requires the listener to allow added indulgence.

As a whole, is Dawes, on the album where all the members finally get to let their freak-flag fly a little more, or as much on record as they have live. And an album that’s kinda about dystopianism kinda becomes a nice 46-minute tonic for it.

These tunes are an absolute joy to listen to. Misadventures Of Doomscroller probably isn’t the AOTY 2022, but if your criteria is “best album to listen to while cruising the Pacific Coast Highway, wind in your hair”, well, it’s a shoo-in.
