very trippy album, I listen to it mostly to fall asleep, or think, or take walks while feeling like i'm stuck in outer space. i love the heavy sounds and weird atmosphere of the whole album, not all songs hit the same way emotionnally though, but i still appreciate the musical experiments she goes through overall !

this album was the album that got me into grimes (i know i was late, but at least i know of her talent now) but WOW this album is amazing and so cohesive with no skips. IDORU is one of her best songs.

I love how each of these tracks make me feel. The music lifts my mood everyday on my drive to work. It transports me. Grimes' high notes are beautiful and the beats are sick. The messages behind this project make me happy as a conservationist. Claire has so much talent it pours out in this work. A year after its release and I am still listening, so this album sustains for me.

It's Grimes best album yet. It has everything for everyone, the production level is 'grimes' just like the complexity of most songs holding tightly to the 'experimental' title.

Miss Anthropoecene is a dark, dreamy and sometimes hypnotic album that makes you feel like you're floating in space, helpless and alone. But the album is let down by some confusing choices in the tracklist and lyrical themes, and by the repetitiveness of some tracks. The project starts with honestly one of my favourite tracks here, So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth. The production, lyricsMiss Anthropoecene is a dark, dreamy and sometimes hypnotic album that makes you feel like you're floating in space, helpless and alone. But the album is let down by some confusing choices in the tracklist and lyrical themes, and by the repetitiveness of some tracks. The project starts with honestly one of my favourite tracks here, So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth. The production, lyrics and feeling of this one is so hypnotic and heavy; I literally feel like I'm falling or floating or something. Darkseid has an incredibly dark beat and is great production wise, and I love the spoken word 'unrest is in our souls...' parts - but most of the song is in some high pitched Chinese which feels so out of place. There's nothing wrong with having foreign languages in 'English' songs, but this just feels like a 'how can I be quirky and different' decision and doesn't actually add anything - and it kind of ruins the song for me. Delete Forever is a touching, acoustic guitar track concerning the effects of drugs and drug overdoses - but it does not fit in the album at all. This should have been a standalone single or a bonus deluxe track, but as the third song it's so jarring... On a side note, from what I've read about this album from interviews etc. this album is apparently meant to be about climate change. Yep... climate change. I honestly don't think anyone would have picked up on that if Grimes hadn't straight up told us, because it's barely noticeable. The only two tracks that you could see hints of that theme in are the next one, Violence, and New Gods. Violence is a merciful return to the dark and dreamy vibe from before and is surprisingly catchy, but the lyrics feel uninspired and more about BDSM than the climate. And New Gods isn't very good either as Grimes' voice just isn't powerful enough to pull off what she's trying to do. 4AM is a banger, but the Bollywood samples feels like a strange choice to make and not in a good way. My Name Is Dark is one of the few times where the song starts off well, but it gets pretty repetitive towards the end and I catch myself sitting there waiting for the track to end. The next track is a good song, nothing much to say about it other than it's good. Before the fever however sounds like an homage to the first track (which I really liked), expect this one is worse in every way and forgettable. We end decently with IDORU which makes me feel like we're back at Earth from all this time floating in space (the lyrics about love, possibly for the planet, and the bird samples). I wish there was a bigger and grander finish, but overall this was a good album. Yes there were moments which had me annoyed, confused and bored, but the production is immaculate pretty much throughout and I did enjoy the majority of the songs here. Expand

I am not very familiar with grimes music, so it is quite exotic for me, it fulfills its objective of taking me on a journey through another universe, even though I was not completely convinced in many of its songs i did not manage to connect with the beginning of her songs to finish meeting her in the middle.

This sounds like you'd expect an album by Elon Musk's girfriend to sound, or how you'd expect said girlfriend to be: goodlooking in a non-average way, indulgent, put together for effect over substance. For practical purposes, this is an instrumental album - most of the lyrics are either "aahs" and "oohs" or unintelligible, sometimes in a grade-school voice, to the point that when you can actually hear the words you want to play the song a few times just out of curiosity ("You'll Miss Me When I'm Not Around" and the slamming "We Appreciate Power" show just how effective this album could have been before they too succumb to effects and gimmicks). Let's face it, if you can't make out the lyrics, you're saying nothing. Grimes says nothing well, but her overproduced twists and turns ruin good ideas. The "look what I can do" thing has felled better artists, at least mainstream-acceptance-wise (Imogen Heap, anyone?), and you can hear the kitchen sink crying for release on every track of this effect-soaked beautiful mess. Did this woman just discover the reverb switch? Belfegore was crisper. (Google it, kids.) Expand

The work grimes has done is ahead of its time, it’s so experimental and shes one of few artists I know who are willing to risk it all to be true to herself and express what is in her mind. I love the theme and it’s message, I would recommend my all friends to meet Miss Anthropocene :)

A definitively original proposal in the Electronic and Experimental Pop industry which musical vision has won public quickly. Grimes is Claire Bouches that has been focused on producing her own audio and visual material. Director of videoclips and her own producer, she comes back after 5 years to present a project that, if not it's not that accessible, it will seduce a big public with an intelligent, peculiar and self-aware with its own narrative and technique Pop. There is an interesting manipulation of the Pop cliche and a very entertaining offer of Dance, Club, Ambiental and Indie music that probably should have more attention than the one it already has.

Even if it is more accessible than previous Grimes records, "Miss Anthropocene" remains one of those albums that feel like treats from artists who never fall short of impressing us. It is as chaotic as the themes that she dives in (global warming, death, modern lives and depression..). Bouchard experiments with beats ('Violence', an EDM-song that sounds like nothing she's done before), features (all of the lyrics on the excellent 'Darkseid' are in asian by rapper 潘PAN), and vocals ('New Gods' may have the creepiest Grimes vocals ever). However, a stand-out on the album is 'Delete Forever', which is a simple guitar-based track showcasing Grimes' vocals without any effects (a first for the artist).
"Miss Anthropocene" is yet another re-introduction to Grimes and all the musical genius she has in her head and her heart.
