Music to be murdered by is the best album Eminem has released since the Marshall Mathers LP2, but it doesn't change the fact that it is still a bloaded and messy project with a handfull of good tracks.

    Best track: Darkness
Worst track: Stepdad (the chorus is trash!)
Best feature: Juice WRLD or Royce da 5'9

I'm kinda surprised that the user score is so high, I thought even Eminem's own fans would've seen that this album isn't particularly strong. This isn't a masterpiece or a ten and there's a reason why the critics score is lower than the user's

If Eminem stayed consistent with the whole Alfred Hitchcock theme this could have been amazing, or even just telling a story in some songs like he did in Stan or Framed, but he decided to go with a semi rant on the music genre that not only ends up on the mediocre side of the sound, but remains just a rephrasing of what he said in Kamikaze. MTBMB is Marshall's best work since MMLP2 In fact I would say this is his best album in terms of production. All of the features are great. There is all type of songs in the album you can vibe to... If you love lyricism (wordplay, bars , metaphors) you should definitely go for this. The Album is a masterpiece.

MTBMB is possibly the best Eminem release since Marshall Mathers LP (About just as good as Relapse) I really like the Alfred Hitchcock interludes, gives the tracks an ominous feeling. Most of the tracks are very good, a couple of things though.
He has way too many songs rapping about toxic relationships, Farewell is god awful. (I know "Never love again" is just one big double-entendre

These days there seem to be a lot of people suffering from ‘Eminem Derangement Syndrome’ – lots of folks are ready to sh*t on everything Eminem does, no matter what (just like they will auto-praise anything media darlings like Kendrick Lamar and Tyler The Creator drop, no matter what). Music To Be Murdered By has its flaws, but it’s not the trainwreck some make it out to be – it’s not anywhere near as bad as Revival (2017) was. It’s more on par with Kamikaze (2018) – a mixed bag, with highs and lows.

The bad: at 17 full tracks, the album is too long with too many weak songs (especially “Those Kinda Nights” with Ed Sheeran is terrible). The features and hooks on songs like “Unaccomodating”, “Leaving Heaven”, and “No Regrets” kind of suck, with guests like Young MA, Skylar Grey and Don Toliver (and Ed Sheeran) obviously on this album for no other reason than for marketing purposes – but their presence doesn’t do the quality of the album any good. Then there are some weak trap beats here and there and a few cringe-worthy lyrics (a reference to the terrorist attack during an Ariana Grande concert where 22 (mostly) kids were killed being in especially bad taste).

The good: tracks like “Godzilla” (despite a meh posthumous appearance by Juice WRLD)”, “Yah Yah” (featuring Royce Da 5’9″, Black Thought, and Q-Tip), “I Will” (featuring KXNG Crooked, Royce da 5’9″ and Joell Ortiz), “Darkness” (honing in on mental health issues and gun violence and drawing a parallel between the two) and “Premonition” (with killer bars like “Instead of us being credited for longevity / And being able to keep it up for this long at this level, we get told we’ll never be what we were / **** if I was as half as good as I was / I’m still twice as good as you’ll ever be / Only way that you’re ahead of me’s alphabetically”) are vintage Eminem. Also, Eminem shows and proves he still has the lyrical skill to blow most other rappers out of the water.

Eminem should have left 6 or 7 tracks on the cutting room floor, then Music To Be Murdered By would have been great. As it is, the album has its moments and is not all bad

Not one bad song here. Every song bumps, and they are without a doubt Eminem's best songs lyrically, this shows how much he abuses multisyllabic rhyming, punchlines and double/triple entendres. It's been over a year since this album came out and I'm still figuring out new meanings for certain lyrics. It also came out on my Birthday, so that's a plus.

Eminem is the rap dad, spitting line after line of double and triple entendres. When was the last time a mainstream rap album had you actually laughing over and over? Some of these verses verge on a modern pop-culturally aware shakespearian comedy. Not only has he continued to hone his lyrical craft to levels best compared with famous poets, but the technical prowess of his delivery adds an entirely new level of artistry.

Instant classic for me. Shady is back and there isn't a single weak link in this album. There are a bunch of banger tracks like Little Engine, Godzilla and Those Kinda Nights and pure Shady tracks like Stepdad and the controversial Unaccommodating. He also sets a new personal record for speed on Godzilla. This album has some surprising rap features.

As the best-selling artist of both the 2000s AND 2010s decades, I can only really judge Eminem’s work in relation to the remainder of his discography, given how superior he is to every other presently trendy rapper (eg Drake; trying to compare the quality between a rap god and a mumble mouth is frankly impossible; ditto Kanye and his chik fil a lyrics).

Is it as good as MMLP or the Eminem Show? No, but no rap album is. “Darkness” is haunting. “Godzilla” is, well, nearly superhuman given Eminem broke his own Guinness world record for faster rapper ever (ie, “Rap God,”) with this track. Given his lyrical genius, his music speaks for itself. Give it a listen; you won’t regret it.

The features are very good, most notably juice wrld and don Toliver, but the album is still really long for no apparent reason. His last record, Kamikaze, spent most of the time insulting 'mumble' rappers and those who were vocal on how bad Revival was. Claiming they all had similar flow and bad lyrics. Yet this record has some lyrics worse than that on songs like Gucci Gang. Distasteful remarks about the tragedy and murder of innocents by extremists at an Ariana Grande Concert, downright corny and cringe like 'I'm a candle, I'll go out if you blow on me'. It isn't anything special and leaves plenty of room to grow. at this point, Eminem is a different person to the one he was 6 - 20 years ago and should be treated like a relatively new artist. this album feels like a sophomore record from a newish rapper. Nothing special, but not terrible either. Expand

This is definetly a step in the right direction for Em, it has some awful tracks, especially the one with Ed Sheeran, but overall, this is better than his previous albums. Darkness is the kinda track that convices me that the old Em that wrote Stan still is alive and well in Marshall. Godzilla is on the other side of the spectrum, fun and fast. I like both sides of this. I like both sides of this. My major complaint with this album is the amount of tracks that aren't that good, and the fact that the title and skits try to tell you that this is a dangerous album and "music to be murdered by", when in fact, there are only a few songs on this thing that reflect this theme. The posse cuts on this thing are amazing though, and You gon' learn especially captures the theme of this album pretty well. All in all an album that is okay to listen through, no awful tracks, just some that are painfully mediocre Expand

I give this review a 10/10. The world plays, the lyrics, the beats, everything is good about the album. People are only trying to say it's not good because they are still stuck thinking he will release an album like MMLP and TES. We are in different era people, if those albums came out in 2020, they would have been rated not good/10

This album is better than Recovery or even MMLP!

He clearly cares about his output, but “Music To Be Murdered By” is, unfortunately, another mixed bag of tricks, propped up by lyrical acrobatics and underwhelming production.

If they look hard enough, any artist could find criticism of their work online. That’s sort of the curse of the Information Age. But not everyone overreacts quite as much as Eminem does. But if his fears grow tiring, his lyrical ability can still give you something to admire, even if the album is somewhat uneven.

It is not, strictly speaking, a good record—Eminem hasn’t made one of those in a decade—but it boasts enough technical command and generates just enough arresting ideas to hold your attention.
