Mar 27, 2018At just over 35 minutes (a “deluxe” version adds three live tunes) a few extra songs would be welcome. But this is a worthy successor to 2013’s terrific debut from these veterans and hopefully won’t be the last.

Mar 27, 2018No Mercy In This Land sits somewhere between the the classic blues records of BB King and the mellow folk tunes of bands like Angus and Julia Stone. Whether you are a die-hard blues fan or just after a narrative driven and emotive album, No Mercy In This Land has something to offer.
-
UncutMar 27, 2018Both are versatile players, and while "Tonight The Bottle Wins Again" is a swaggering blues, Harper leans towards Otis Redding on "When Love Is Not Enough." [May 2018, p.28]
-
Mar 29, 2018Ultimately, No Mercy in This Land is solid if not (quite) as strong as Get Up! That said, it is more diverse, immediate, and instinctive, making it a worthy listen, and provides further evidence that this pair should work together more often.

MojoMar 27, 2018Musselwhite's bittersweet harmonica offers plaintive asides to 10 Harper-penned tunes, the most potent of which is Nothing At All, a solemn waltz-time ballad. Elsewhere, the material ranges from rough-hewn country blues to swaggering Muddy Waters-esque message songs. [May 2018, p.95]
