After 4 years without a Doves record, this is a very welcome return for Jimi Goodwin. I've heard the word 'mixtape' used several times in reviews for this, but it really doesnt do the album justice. It's eclectic, but even the barmy 'Man Vs Dingo' worms it's way in to your head and stays there. There's plenty to love in this record, warmth, hope, sadness, anger and a whole lot more, allAfter 4 years without a Doves record, this is a very welcome return for Jimi Goodwin. This is very much Goodwin's record, the work of a man revelling in his own company. [May 2014, p.88]

For an old dog, he's got some promising new tricks.

When word of a Jimi Goodwin album first got out, the reaction was to hope for a trifle at best and fear a disaster at worst. Instead, it’s the rare solo album that builds on the singer’s day job without turning its back on it. File under: Pleasant surprise.
