The first thing I had to overcome about this album is the art cover. It has some repellant effect on me and made me think this project would be superficial and effortless.

Hopefully I was wrong (on some points). Lyrics were not as shallow as I expected. Sometimes deep, sometimes joyful, distant and/or introspective. Production of some of the tracks is interesting too. The main flaw

The main flaw of 'Over It' is that I couldn't get into it even how hard I tried. I listened to it again and again but couldn't erase the feeling of not being involved in it. I wrote that some instrumentals of the songs are cool but it is surely not the majority. At some point I thought I was listening to a 'London On The Track' album because we can stop hearing his signature over and over. The rest of the original tracks are the ones with random piano touching. Enough to make you feel like she is an inspired artist but doesn't even know what she is doing. You get used to Summer Walker's work really quickly: tracklist is full of generic R&B beats, the artist's voice don't change from begenning to end, there are too few catchy songs. Summer Walker has the incredible ability to sing really slowly to say nothing from time to time, using the lascivity of her voice to reach some audience. Some featurings are successful (like with Jhené Aiko, Drake or 6LACK) but some other ones are really dull (like with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie). This project is endless and has plunged me into deep boredom every time I tried to get it touch with. All feels so flat and featured artists don't even success to bring the diversity I hoped to save 'Over It'. I must have listened to it completely six or seven times but getting over it was a long and uninteresting journey.

Most of the album is forgettable, however, there are some magical moments in this project that keep me engaged. I think she's kinda all over the place with the styles - understandable. However, it's pretty obvious where her skills fire on certain tracks.

It’s indeed Summer Walker’s authenticity she sells on Over It that feels right at home with ’90s R&B, and adjacent to contemporary druggy Atlanta-centric Hip-Hop. Summer Walker is unashamed, contemplative, and despite her debut album name, far from over.

more thought-through and sounds more honed [than her 2018 mixtape Last Day Of Summer].

Occasionally she steers into blander territory, like the well-written but sleepy “Fun Girl,” but a rotating collection of R&B’s most toxic crooners keeps the energy level high.
