To bad that no new songs appeared on this one, but there are so many great songs that you don't mind hearing them over and over again.

Derivative, yes. I hear influences from The Cure (the singer actually sounds a bit like Robert Smith), Prince and nearly every power pop band that ever existed. Is it a Blonde on Blonde, Sgt. Peppe, Marquee Moon or Nevermind? Of course not, but the songs are catchy and fun. The perfect summer record.

The Blacks Kids debut full length is undoubtedly a departure from their darker versions of the music presented in the free wizard e.p. ,as far as production. You have to give it a second listen!!! This is an awesome album that only suffers from preconcocted notions of what you THOUGHT they were gonna do. Once you can let this album be judged on its own merit, watch out haters, this could The Blacks Kids debut full length is undoubtedly a departure from their darker versions of the music presented in the free wizard e.p. ,as far as production. Wow!!! Time flies when your having fun. Expand

They've done a great record But the post production just makes its sound not nearly as good as "wizard of ahhs".

Awesome record, one of the few I can listen to in it's entirety without ever skipping a track. The perfect summer pop album.

Catchy tunes with some references to the 80's make this album an easy-to-listen one.

Uh, no. This band was overhyped from the get go and, although they may have shown a little promise on their free ep, the dazzling production ect. gets them nowhere. I'm not sure why the critics scored it so high, especially considering the apologetic tone in their reviews. This album is utterly disposable, though it's good for maybe two spins.

Catchy, but horribly derivative. One part The Cure, one part The Go! Team, and very little variation anywhere.

wow...the critics would like this drivel...the ep was fantastic...but everything good about that was stripped away by over-production and the addition of the new songs...which are not close to being on par with the re-recordings of the 4 songs from wizard of aahs...this record makes the killers seem reputable...a piece of trash...plain and simple.

The Black Kids sound like Robert Smith fronting the B-52s, with hook-filled songs and touch of a wacky soul (a la P-Funk). It's a heady brew that can still be enjoyed as pure pop.

I think people expected more of this band than they had any reason to expect. It's a fun, superficial dance record and that's all it aims to be.

This album is pure crap....the EP showed a lot of promise..but this is just embarrassing on all levels....even pitchfork realizes it now..."Sorry".

Bit of a guilty pleasure this one! I'm rarely grabbed by a music video but I was by 'Hurricane Jane' from this debut and had to investigate. 'Teach Your Boyfriend' is another great single and to that short list I'd add 'Making Eyes'. Those 3 tracks ARE the album - great Cure meets Bloc Party meets disco pop songs. At a push 'Listen to Your Body' is a serviceable indie disco stomper. The rest ranges from uninspiring to truly awful (the last 2 songs are unlistenable). Just burn those 4 songs and have a warm bath to try and wash away the dirty feeling of listening to the rest! Expand

Very good pop album. Ignore the hype, ignore the pitchfork shit review, give it a chance and enjoy it for what it is. A fun dance record.

Wow. A band that blatantly rips off the B-52s, adds the vocals from Hot Hot Heat, and throws in an "awkward indie" sound. There are 3 songs that I MIGHT listen to on a day riddled with boredom (Charm (Again), Limousine, and Hurricane) but there are a majority of completely forgettable songs on this album. 1. This debut--while not a technically poor album, boasting as it does pop hooks aplenty if you truly focus in, beyond the sometimes irritating vocal tennis--sags where it should soar, dips where it should peak.
  2. Pay no attention to the hype--after all, it didn't do Vampire Weekend any harm--and sit back and listen to one of the most purely enjoyable albums of this year.
  3. Partie Traumatic is the sexiest, most outrageous outright pop album of ’08 so far, hard not to love and (seemingly) even easier to lay.
