Fresh and chirpy as ever, even if also as usual the subject matter can meander from downer to positive over the space of a few lines. It's not their best outing but there are certainly some gems here. Most notably opener 'what did we do to you to deserve this', 'work and then wait' and title track 'Risk to exist'

As with every Maximo Park album since the underwhelming Quicken the Heart, Risk to Exist also has a nagging tendency to drastically change the template with underwhelming results. Sometimes it works.

As a tonic to the like-minded, these soul-tinged indie resistance anthems do their bit, if seldom approaching the euphoric lift-off of Maximo’s best songs.

A record that fits neatly in to the Maxïmo Park canon, while seeking to distance itself from it subtly.
