A really impressive debut. LH is such a talented song-writer. Her unique voice has real warmth but gives an edginess to the songs if that makes sense. It's a really accomplished album. brilliantly constructed songs, but never contrived... I love it.

Nominated for a Mercury Music Prize in 2009 - it is quite good but not sure if it was so good it warranted a nomination. The majority of the record has nice, up tempo songs - a big change from her days backing Damien Rice. Well worth a listen but it's fairly gentle stuff and sometimes it can be a bit pedestrian. I saw Lisa play the record live and have to say I appreciated it a lot moreNominated for a Mercury Music Prize in 2009 - it is quite good but not sure if it was so good it warranted a nomination. Gorgeous first album, with songs that just grow on you each time you play them. I think the problem that some people have is that the music is so subtle and understated that they miss the intricacies first time round - have some patience, people, and try listening again. I play it all the time in my car and, no, I haven't fallen asleep at the wheel - I find it ideal for soothing all notions of road rage when someone cuts me up or does something equally anti-social. Great music to chill out by, whatever stresses and strains you need to escape from. Expand

Beautiful. I gave it a 10 to balance out the ridiculous 0s it's received. I think it deserves an 8.5.

  1. Hannigan may be introspective, but she knows how to coax a melody into the sunlight.
  2. Though Sea Sew is a folk album, the music here is thrillingly lush.
  3. Unassuming and refreshingly lacking in the pretension of so many contemporary folk-pop records, Sea Sew makes for both a challenging and a charming proper introduction for Hannigan.
