Aug 28, 2020Painfully the same Katy we’ve seen for years, with similar sounding beats and overproduction. There are some okay tracks on here, but not enough to fully save it. We can’t easily give her good reviews just because she’s Katy Perry. This album has to at least live up to its predecessor’s, to which it does not.

Aug 28, 2020This album was a disappointment. I didn't have high hopes for Katy and her music, but I did think it would be better than this. She has the budget for the best writers and producers in the world but this album still sounds dated, clunky, and tacky. Hopefully the next one is better but after this and Witness, I doubt the quality of Katy's music is on anything but a downward spiraling trajectory.

Aug 28, 2020É constrangedor que uma mulher de 35 anos lance um álbum totalmente sem coesão e imaturo como esse. É, literalmente, constrangedor escutar isso que, supostamente, eram para ser músicas.
Espero que ela consiga encontrar a sua verdadeira vocação sendo mãe, pois como cantora não tem mais salvação. -

Sep 8, 2020Without fleeting moments of bad taste, Perry does indeed sound mature, but she's also not quite as fun. That's a conscious choice, though. Smile is intended to evoke memories of her frivolous younger days while pointing toward a sustainable pop future.

If Witness was overdetermined, Smile is an earnest exhale, for better or for worse. It delivers an image of her journey towards inner peace that is honest (if corny) and catchy (if not exactly inventive).
