This is a better attempt than Witness, that's for sure. But the whole record sounds like rejects from her previous work.

All songs sound the same, there's no innovation to her music in the past 5 years. I think it's time for her to explore new genres.

It’s sad to see modern pop icon and one of the best-selling artists of 2010’s to come up with album like Smile. That’s it, that’s the review.

You have to be honest, for an artist of the stature of Katy Perry this is not a good album. It's not soo bad and it's okay that i wanted to make a personal album, however that doesn't mean that this album is forgetful anf boring.

I don't like to think superstar Katy Perry did this, there's lack of everything, but nice try.

Not really impressed... i miss teenage dream vibes. But I admit she's done a medium work

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

A kid's bop album with a few bops. Disappointed in the lack of artistic growth from her after all these years.

A very bland and typical pop album. Sounds like a generic target ad commercial. There are a few interesting lyrics and solid bangers, but they are spread too thin to save this album. It looks like Katy's career is coming to its end

I was expecting more from this album may be a different sound of her but No, she didn't grow as an artist for me. She always in the safe zone based on her current and past albums. I didn't get the vision or direction of this album that makes me want to keep listening more. Maybe I will relisten if this album will grow on me.

It’s nothing new. Basic Popmusic. At least „Not the end of the world“ is great.

More of the same, in short it is boring and simply bad, I expected more from the interpreter of dark horse or teenage dream.

One of the worst Katy's album. She hasn't grown up at all. Typical rhythms and lines. Sounds like demo-version of TD. Katy's main problem is that she's afraid of going away from her typical Bubble gum outfit. She tryes to experiment but want to have TD's success. She wants to sit on both chairs but it's impossible and that's her main rwason of failure.

Smile has a few good songs on the album, but the lyrics get a little too repetitive. Tucked remains the best from the album. Not the best album released by Katy.

Is like she has been stuck since 2010 in the same sound that her previous albums , wich is sad cause i was waiting for something new , she is not a teenager anymore, it time to grow up!

Without fleeting moments of bad taste, Perry does indeed sound mature, but she's also not quite as fun. That's a conscious choice, though. Smile is intended to evoke memories of her frivolous younger days while pointing toward a sustainable pop future.

While Perry finds the occasional moment of quality here (Smile and Tucked both feel like the best possible music we could get from Katy Perry in 2020), Smile is an album searching for an identity—and when it fails, it falls back on lazy writing.

Like Joanne before Chromatica, Smile plays like a necessary centering exercise, indulging her insecurities and less surefire instincts. If Witness was overdetermined, Smile is an earnest exhale, for better or for worse. It delivers an image of her journey towards inner peace that is honest (if corny) and catchy (if not exactly inventive).
