Sep 7, 2018While those showier pieces grab attention on first listen, the more meditative ones slowly sink their hooks in, too.
-
MojoSep 6, 2018While the playful spirit and precise progressions of his previous albums linger, it's demonstrably darker entries that capture Gonzales's disarming craftsmanship best. [Oct 2018, p.91]

Sep 6, 2018Solo Piano III is colourful and humorous; the sheer musicality of the work is astounding, bringing the listener as close to contentment as music possibly can.
-
Q MagazineSep 6, 2018By turns wistful, plaintive and overwrought, Solo Piano III is a fitting virtuosic finale to this Renaissance Man's excellent adventure. [Oct 2018, p.111]

Sep 7, 2018This is an album that both delights and haunts. The solo piano is a potent force in the right hands. Lovely.

Sep 14, 2018Even when referencing the haunting flattened fifth of Satie’s Gnossienne No 1 on pieces such as Famous Hungarians and Chico, Gonzales doesn’t linger or probe: he tells his story and gets the hell out. He’s like an Edwardian parlour pianist, reshaping the tropes of fin-de-siècle impressionism into a series of concise, three-minute pop songs. It’s very satisfying to hear.

Sep 12, 2018Chilly Gonzales has shown time and again that he’s a composer worthy of our attention and this is just one more instance that proves him right. Solo Piano III is Gonzales at his most traditional, but with hints of his more disarming inner ego.
