It seems that Gardner has found his calling as a psychedelic spaceman, and Somnium is a laid-back delight that's a perfect soundtrack for inner flights and star-filled nights alike.
  2. Uncut

The end result creates an engulfing sonic swirl, recalling the enveloping work of Cluster and Tangerine Dream. [Dec 2018, p.24]
  3. Nov 26, 2018
    70
Somnium's aim and direction are uniquely its own, its conclusion open-ended yet still satisfying.

Somnium is almost New-Agey in its avoidance of any sort of harsh sound, instead preferring to layer rich and warm synths until they hint at the slightly sinister. He should score the next sci-fi series.
  5. Mojo
    Dec 17, 2018
    60
Throughout, a twinkly otherworldliness is counterbalanced by rhythmic excursions evoking the passage between one liminal world and another. [Feb 2019, p.92]
  6. Q Magazine

It works best when these elements are brought to the fore--the shadowy-voyage-into-the-unknown atmosphere of opener Rising or Rain's floating, dream-like synths--creating an eerie, retro-futurist soundworld to get lost in. [Feb 2019, p.112]
