Distinctive in style and sound, particularly Hecksher's drawling vocal and JC Rees expedient guitar surges, it's a record that pulls no punches in execution or delivery while conveying some of the most heartfelt lyrics Hecksher has ever penned.

For the most part, Songs from the Pale Eclipse once again finds Bobby Hecksher following his muse through the night skies, and the chase continues to bring him worthy results.

The second half of the album is less special than the first with just Drinking Song and the excellent two-note undulations of I Warned You perhaps worthy of a higher placing amongst the band’s fully loaded cannon.

Songs From a Pale Eclipse will surprise few fans of neo-psychedelia, but it can stand in until the next bold psych release.

I have been a fan of psychedelia for many years. This work, with a clear affinity to Brian Jonestown Massacre, beats them at their game. ItI have been a fan of psychedelia for many years.
