We waited four years for this? I love Ray's music and appreciate that he wants to grow by exploring history. However, this album is a major snooze. We don't live in 1967 San Francisco and we really don't need the psychedelia today, though I see the critics are smoking the funny stuff. I simply don't want to listen to this album time after time like I did God Willing and others. ItsWe waited four years for this? Its great, even important, to explore, but put out an album every year or two an alternate between pure rip-off and more original work so we can see the development. Waiting this long for a second, less interesting and accessible rip-off is annoying. Expand

Dan Auerbach's production is warmly intimate, LaMontangne's singing a quiet marvel. [Jul 2014, p.95]

The resulting arrangements are masterful affairs that frame LaMontagne's material with great taste and flair. [Jul 2014, p.90]

Like [Beck's] Morning Phase, even Supernova’s failures prove an interesting listen, and when LaMontagne hits his stride, it’s an album that contains some of his best material in years.
