The laser-guided synth-pop of The Natural World, hip-thrusting disco epic Like An Animal and Erosion's Invocation of early New order all pulsate with the excitement of a band discovering new capabilities, even if Cleverly's somewhat histrionic vocal style can take some getting used to. The London quartet signpost the album with handsome literary and academic allusions in anticipation of an edifying dance direction, but end up trotting out the kind of meek synthfunk once propagated by the likes of Hot Chip and Metronomy. [Feb 2014, p.73]

While their aesthetic hangs in the balance, they’ve proven on The Age of Fracture that they have it in themselves to achieve cohesion.

The problem plaguing The Age of Fracture is inconsistency; the filler material is unmemorable and a little bland.

Tracks like "You Are", "Empty Space" and my personal favorite "This City" are as catchy as they come. I like to base the best albums of the year on their "completedness" and when it comes to The Age of Fracture, it's as complete an album as they come. You won't find many if any "filler" tracks on here like you tend to see so often nowadays. This is the type of work that you can play through and not worry about constantly hitting next. They do a great job at blending quirky electronic pop with the occasional sincere, chilled out jam like "This City". If you can appreciate strange synth pop with a slightly retro feel, this is the album for you. Full Review »
