An amazing album. Tracks 1,8 & 10 are outstanding. Even if you weren't a Depeche Mode fan this album carries its own weight. Very spiritual in its tone and lyrics. Soft and not quite haunting but soulful would be a good word. It's an album that is great to listen to while contemplating life, love or loss. Anybody familiar with Depeche Mode or David's solo work will appreciate theAn amazing album. Tracks 1,8 & 10 are outstanding. Even if you weren't a Depeche Mode fan this album carries its own weight. [Dave Gahan's] trademark delivery brings the gravitas to Machin's creeping strings-swaddled, Morricone-like mood. [Jun 2012, p.87]

The Light the Dead See achieves a result all too hard to pull off - it is theatrical without feeling like an act, saturated with atmosphere without being swamped in it.

This is the stuff of Hollywood film soundtracks, and Gahan's robust baritone is a perfect fit for the proceedings.
