Their first album since 2009's Broken, gains strength from being all Gahan, all the time. [Jun 2012, p.111]
  2. A barrel of laughs it ain't. Over sparse, semi-orchestral backing, Gahan tackles the big ones.

The Light the Dead See is a good and, at times, even great album. It just ultimately fails to live up to the standard set by its predecessors.

An amazing album. Tracks 1,8 & 10 are outstanding. Even if you weren't a Depeche Mode fan this album carries its own weight. Very spiritual inAn amazing album. Tracks 1,8 & 10 are outstanding. Even if you weren't a Depeche Mode fan this album carries its own weight. Very spiritual in its tone and lyrics. Soft and not quite haunting but soulful would be a good word. It's an album that is great to listen to while contemplating life, love or loss. Anybody familiar with Depeche Mode or David's solo work will appreciate the mellowness and lack of heavy electronics. Instantly a great album. Full Review »
