The Music is an incredible effort and a brilliant example of where rock could be headed.
-
The band's formula for its high-energy, rock-dance mélange is quite simple; take youthful exuberance (average age: 19), add an exceptionally-tight rhythm section, and let the superfluous, over-indulgent jams flow, as they most certainly do over the course of ten songs and just over 55 minutes on this most promising debut.
-
UncutThough it flags towards the end, The Music is, for the most part, a shot in the arm. [Oct 2002, p.110]
-
SpinWhat's most British about the Music is their tendency to try way too hard. [Apr 2003, p.108]
-
A headache-inducing mess of rehashed classic rock riffs and stale grooves.
-
A hollow release, the veneer of a good album covering up an otherwise unremarkable and sometimes disappointing collection of songs.
-
How anyone can describe Leeds' The Music as a "best new band" is beyond me. Unless they're over fifty, sport a footballer's perm and weep at Almost Famous.
