  • Summary: The debut album for the quintet from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

  1. 80
A half-dozen times on their debut, the Shackeltons sound completely convincing, and that's about six more times than most bands ever manage.
  2. Ah, but they’re young and impassioned, so we’ll let the Shackeltons emote a little too much here on their self-titled debut (again, at least they’re not emo).
  3. You get a lot of elastic, post-punk guitar explorations (à la Mission of Burma)--as evidenced by such standouts as the album opening 'Your Movement' and 'Tremble.' But then just when you think you have the Shackelton lads figured out, the Joy Division-ish 'Soft Heart' comes peaking around the corner.
  4. The Shackeltons mostly have problems with the vocals. Mark Redding tends toward Jack White yelps, though he's occasionally possessed by Conor Oberst's quaver and emo poetry.
