Andy's captivating voice, as well as the uncanny production, takes you through the punk-rock ride in all its glory. The album is a departure from Black veil bride's sound, but it definitely delivers (it actually ended up being better). Simply perfect, Andy's solo debut has been magnificent. The songs are really great, their styles are artistic and the album is just perfect, Andy transmits many emotions through TSS.

The Shadow Side reveals Andy Black as a creative force of his own, albeit one still finding his sound, his boundaries, his feet. [30 Apr 2016, p.66]

Romantic, modern, vintage, classic, spinning pop illusions while sublimely dancing with the dark arts--there’s a definite “vibe” throughout The Shadow Side and the mainstream would be better for it, should the world surrender themselves to Andy Black’s deceptive embrace.

Many of the tracks on the album definitely feel like they were written during the golden age of pop-punk music. Yet there is also something innovative about these songs, particularly the opener “Homecoming King.”
