Very bad album, over rated by hipsters who think they are cool for listening to an album with simplistic album artwork.

The band feels almost scientifically designed to appeal to the kind of cynical popphobic music listener I am generally the exact opposite of (not that I think the band is manufactured, they just happen to fit the needs of that demographic to a tee). They get this appeal from slightly grimy production, angsty lyrics, and hooks just not quite catchy or anthemic enough to feel like a pop song (at least from what relatively little I've listened to). They're not experimental exactly they just seem to lack mainstream appeal. There hooks are a little catchy, just not very much. That third one (lack of super catchy or anthemic hooks) is the real problem for me. The hooks just don't quite have the passion in him that I look for in the music I listen to. I just don't feel any sort of emotion from listening to their music. I don't feel happy, I don't feel sad, and I don't have fun. Maybe the appeal is supposed to be from their lyrics, but musically it feels like they're trying to be not mainstream by taking away everything mainstream listeners find appealing about music, and maybe I'm just too mainstream but to me there's nothing left when you take all those things away. However, Drunk Drivers/Killer Whale is the kind of emotional sounding epic song with a long running time that I always really get into and gives me a sense of grand emotion I can only really get from that specific kind of song . I didn't like it at first, but it's growing on me with every listen.

Though it often overstays its welcome, with a handful of tracks pushing beyond the 15-minute mark, Twin Fantasy is an ideal starting point for any latent Will Toledo fan.

What a glorious sound it is--the highs and lows (sonically and emotionally) are crisper and better defined. [No. 150, p.50]

On the 2018 remake (full title: Twin Fantasy (Face to Face)), Toledo maintains his vulnerability but hides behind layers of noise and production value. ... But if Toledo’s production sensibilities are still a work in progress, his sense of humor and wit continue to shine through.
