This album is so much different than any other Lana Del Rey record, especially her major-label debut Born To Die. Good different. The amazing hip hop beats are gone, only to be replaced with magnificent guitars. The deep sad lyrics vanished, only to be replaced by even sadder and more bitter words. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A perfect album from Lana Del Rey, reflexive, calm, spiritual, hot as ice and cold as fire, the entire album takes us to Del Rey's world, the production from Dan Auerbach brings a different face to the album, it makes it even better than Lana's last albums: Born to Die and it's re-release: Paradise. Since the beginning of the record, the music attracts you and makes you go to the deep old and surf rock from the West Coast, traveling to the jazz air from the Brooklyn, after it takes us to the Latin-American inspired America and finally to the Florida, it makes you feel like you're listening to a new album every time, the highlights of the album are for sure the polemic, sad and depressive but at the same time with a lot of soul and love, the title song, Ultraviolence, a potential single, also Shades of Cool and Brooklyn Baby that are perfect opposites, West Coast ia a musical monster, perfect, universal and harmonic song. Also Pretty When You Cry, a lovely song about a man and the ambitious Money Power Glory, also don't forget the beautiful and soft Black Beauty from Deluxe Edition and the very cool Florida Kilos who sounds like a song that Lizzy Grant would have written and sung before she was Lana Del Rey. From the booming sounds in the background of Cruel World, to the heartbreaking vocals of Pretty When You Cry, to the beautiful shade of F*cked My Way Up To The Top, to the remastered beauty of Black Beauty, and to the odd shine of Florida Kilos, this album has won my heart. A perfectly cohesive album that screams it's title. It's dark, depressing, beautiful, and perfectly crafted. Sure, she may have lost some fans by throwing away the hip-hop beats of Born to Die, but that was never her true passion. She has gained and found her true fans in those who support this music. A hazy, smoky, old feel brought on by raw drums, guitars, bass, and slight distortion. Her voice brings all the instruments to life, it seems, and brings the viewers to life into an adventure made by her. A sad adventure, but a beautifully told adventure by the greatest storyteller "pop" music has today: Lana Del Rey. She may not be played on the radio, but she is quite the pop star. A popular star that doesn't have radio play, or even wants/needs it, because her music speaks louder than the radio's overdose of "it gets better" songs. She writes not to influence, but to release. She writes not for us, but for herself. Her devotion to this truly brings out the beauty of her music. Not everyone will like it, but that's okay, as long as she's happy doing what she's doing. Lana Del Rey has perfected her craft, created a dark masterpiece, and I can't wait to see what she will do next. For now, I'll be playing this endlessly. Expand

A dark and cinematic masterpiece. This is truly Lana's best album with standout tracks like Shades of Cool, Brooklyn Baby, West Coast, Florida Kilos, etc. I highly recommend a listen if you're into songs with substance that give off an indie rock 70's vibe.

Ultraviolence is THAT album. Definitely her best work yet, deserved waaaay more recognition. Old Money is a masterpiece, one of the few songs that can make me cry! But my favorite song of the album is the title track, just the instrumental is enough...

Seriously, this is one of the best albums she has ever recorded. The dark theme with a west coast sense suit each other perfectly. Her voice makes it sound more richer. This album could be considered as the best album of 2014 and a masterpiece. It exactly shows us who she really is. Great work.

Lana's second effort under Interscope, gives off a more likeable sound than Born To Die (2011). On ULTRAVIOLENCE, the sound is more Sadcore and pop.
